Mary Worth 2397

Given that you and Mary stood there while the doctor prescribed opiates for Tommy and didn't say a thing, I wasn't even sure you remembered that he was a narcotics addict. A mother's love is undying...

You absolutely nailed it Wanders! I suppose Iris and Mary are so clueless that they didn't know Vicodin was an opiate, or that a previous meth addiction wasn't relevant. Outside of publishing a useful hotline number, this storyline is totally bogus.

Thanks to Jon Stewart whenever my family runs across an acronym like SAMHSA we invariably say "S-A-M-H-S-A...or NAMBLA."
My morning paper is late yet again so I'm using my time wisely to catch up on comments. You folks never fail to disappoint and to express exactly what I'm thinking when I read each strip.
Kinda sorta hoping that Ms. Moy continues her Problems In Real Life storyline with the transgender bathroom issue. From the dialogue to the art, it would be one for the ages. Anywho, can't wait to see Tommy all back to normal soon, thanks to Mary.

Rights, Wanders. Iris and Mary are myopic to the nth degree. I fear over the next week we'll be subjected to a Mary Victory Lap after Iris falls all over her with thanks for the "more mothering" advice.

Based on Iris's words and behavior today, I predict she will ditch the University to become a televangelist.

Argh, #%>€ autocorrect changed my "righto" to "rights." How nervy!

WOW! Now I get it! Panel 1 makes it all clear! Tommy didn't want to "be with" DAWN and didn't really care when Tina dumped him because ... Tommy is in love with Mommy! Panel one and a half was censored by the newspapers, but it had Tommy saying, "Come on, give us a kiss!" and then a big, wet SMOOCH! Well, I didn't get to see Tommy and Dawn together--alas!--but today's strip gave me that incestuous vibe that I had been craving in my daily reading material!

Can't wait to see what happens next! A Mary Worth victory lap would be ... AWESOME!

Iris: Son, I don't want you to be addicted to opiates, I want you to be addicted to and completely dependent on me.

Actually I was surprised when a relative who has been clean for 10 years had surgery and was only prescribed OTC pain meds. He can never be prescribed narcotics for the rest of his life.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that most doctors wouldn't prescribe Vicodin right away for a torn back muscle. I tore up a back muscle when I fell off a cantering horse and onto some rocks and all I got was a slightly stronger form of Robaxacet. My back was also fine again in two weeks.

Also, every doctor's office I've been in has signs saying that they do not prescribe opioids to walk-in or non-regular patients.

I must also say that one of the panels on Sunday's strip is kinda disturbing.

Shame, Karen Moy, shame. I get dumber every day because of you.

@Garnet, ouch! Nothing quite like falling off a horse. Please tell me you wore a helmet (Sept 17 was Helmet Awareness Day) When I had a fall while jumping I tweaked my back badly and ended up at urgent care. I got a strong dose of dilaudid and a prescription for Vicodin. But no refills! Tommy should have tried the Back on Track brace for his back. Those products are amazing! I'm highly skeptical of therapeutic products that make big claims but these have a noticeable effect. I have used the back brace, knee brace, wrist brace, neck wrap, and gloves for my achy finger joints. My horse has several products, too. I work at www.marystack.com so I research the products we carry & get lots of feedback from co-workers and customers. So, if you have an injury, arthritis, or sore muscles, skip the addictive opiate narcotics & try Back on Track!

Yep, I always wear a helmet!

Oh brother. I'm struggling to think of any other storyline in which KM insulted more people, their real problems, and their intelligence.

I'm with you Nance! This is like watching a train wreck except instead of horrified fascination I'm just sick to my stomach about the trivialization of this epidemic. Truly a new low.
