I admit, kicking your shoes off and dancing in the moonlight on the beach to the wafting sounds of a Bobby Darin cover band seems remarkably romantic. One night, Mrs. Wanders and I left the San Francisco Opera during the first intermission of three, drove across town to Ghirardelli Square for sundaes, then walked in the moonlight on the beach. It was a romantic autumn night, but I'm not sure it makes a good story. I'm certain that whatever opera we were watching was an even worse story. And Mike and Jenna's blind date probably falls somewhere in between.
Today's Full Strip
Mike sure is rockin' the smokey eye look that was featured on all the runways this season.
ReplyDeleteGee thanks, Moy and Giella, for ruining one of best songs ever written for the readers of your comic strip.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Looks like Mike's pretty excited to think, after enduring the long and formal procedure of the Perfect First Date, he's finally going to get to chomp on Jenna's brains.
ReplyDeleteGod I hope one of them falls in. Preferably to be stung senseless by jellyfish.
ReplyDeleteI was excited to see this song in today's strip, Wanders, because of its connection to the French song, La Mer, which might have earned Mike and Jenna their first Dharma Initiative label.
ReplyDeleteThey must be dancing at 78 RPM's! Just look at Jennas hair whipping round and round.
ReplyDeleteI also believe Jenna is much too old for Dr. Mike.
Where did those notes come from? Is hospital hi-fi lurking in the dunes?
Lest we all get carried away in this romantic moment, let's not forget...this is a woman who starts drinking beer at 8:00 a.m.
ReplyDelete@Maggie -- Note the full moon. Dr. Mike is about to turn into a werewolf. Moy is riding that wave of "Twilight" mania right into the beach.
ReplyDeleteTrue story: My husband and I watched a horror movie about 20 years ago, on TV, in which one of the characters actually said, "But I just want to eat your brains. They smell so spicy!" Like a train wreck, we just couldn't tear ourselves away...
Anyone notice how from one strip to another (but presumably all on the same day in comic-strip time), the position of Jenna's ponytail on back of her head changes dramatically from the nape to the crown and everywhere in between? What does this mean?
ReplyDeleteDrinking beer at 8AM would certainly cause a strange, buzzy feeling.
ReplyDeleteHasn't Moy listened to a radio since 1959? "Beyond the Sea?" Seriously?
ReplyDelete"This has been real fun, Mike, but I um...I need to go home now and look over Bonnie? Bonnie Johnson's file one more time". You know...just to make sure she's still doing really great and all"...
ReplyDeleteUnspoken: "Oh yeah, and I need another BEER."
