Mary Worth 865

Adrian, I think Mary Worth is suggesting that your happiest days will be spent with your husband, not with Mary and Jill. Your husband, Scott. Remember him?

Today's Full Strip

  1. Although Jill may be a problem down the road, I am more concerned about how the large void behind Dr. Adrian in panel one was almost instantly is filled with a wall and photograph/art piece in panel two.

Their seating position is about the same and there appears to be no time lag in the conversation. Yet, Presto, a wall with artwork magically appears as if the scene was out of one of David Copperfield's events.

  2. If the wedding is her happiest of days, does that mean that Mary foresees it all going downhill from there?

  3. @birdie: That's it! Phrases like that and "high school will be the happiest time of your life"
    have always freaked me out.

After that, just get some boxes of wine from Jenna's place and tuck it in; it's all over.

  4. Mary should also remind Adrian that many marriages end in divorce.

Is Jill Black, the hospital admnistrator, responsible for the shoddy conditions at Mountview Hospital? The hiring of 4th graders to run the front desk? The poor treatment of Hospital Hi-Fi? Then this should be some wedding.

  5. Scott..... Scott... oh, I remember! Didn't he give Adrian some kind of ring?

  6. What a hip restaurant Mary and Adrian are dining at. In panel one, Debbie Harry is just leaving. (And her hand appears to be on her escort's butt! Rock stars are so uninhibited!)

  7. Is Debbie Harry wearing a tight, patterned skirt, or is she just parading around in a top and fishnet stockings?

  8. @duckdg: Yep, the ring is missing...

  9. Once again Moy patterns her dialog after mainstream America.

  10. So...when are we going to get a look-see at this Type A, Jill Black?

  11. The candle is long gone and Adrian's bangs are getting greasy. This leads me to believe this a 24 hour restaurant and BREAKFAST is now being served!
Time to go home and shower, ladies--start a new day! Later you can meet up with Type A Jill, and begin "planning the happiest of days."

  13. I think that Moy is the one getting married or is at least too busy to create a new storyline. She seems to be just phoning in her work while she attends to other things.

  14. Jill Black is a centuries-old vampire with a preference for Type A blood and a hobby of wedding planning.

This is the only possible scenario in which her powers could hope to compare with Mary's.

  15. It's good that Jill Black has some experience. She'll know what this is all about.
    What this is all about?
Well DOCTOR Adrian, when a man and woman fall in love...

  16. This girl doesn't need Mary or Jill. This girl needs Bonnie, Bonnie Johnson.

  17. Mary is shopping "the next day" in the same suit she wore to lunch all week. Did she sleep in those clothes?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jill knows that this is about:

"The birds and the bees and the flowers and trees and the moon up above and a thing called love.

  19. Kathyo - it seems that, like djangosmom's comment above, Giella is phoning it in as well. I think we may have actually reached the point where the creators are as bored with this strip as we are. (PS: how fitting that my word verification is "trite")

“She’ll know what this is all about.” Well, Adrian, you go into the dress store, try on the dress, pay for it, wear it on your wedding day then shove it in the back of your closet for the rest of your life. That’s what it is all about.

I bet Jill doesn’t know that!

  21. It's about someone making you feel like a queen so that you'll write them a big check. You should know something about that, Adrian.

  22. I'm wondering, if & when all is said and done, Adrian opts to wear her (Not really)dead mother's wedding dress, or maybe even Mary Worth's old wedding gown, instead of buying a new one.

    ReplyDelete
  23. @ Maude: How old would you imagine Mary Worth's wedding gown to be?

  24. Chester the Dog (in gown)October 8, 2010 at 9:34 PM

Ha! Adrian will wear her mothers wedding gown. I see an attic and some old trunks.

    I bet ten salmon squares.

Wanders, mark this down. I have a hunch.

  25. @ Brick-

Well, since Mary has always been ''about 60 years old'', no matter what the year, I'd say that currently puts her wedding gown in the mid-late 1960's era. Of course, Mary has probably kept it in pristine condition, sealed away for just such an occasion.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Jill is probably waiting inside the salon with dresses she chose for Adrian to try on. And my hunch is that the bridesmaids' gowns will be lavender.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Lavender at a Goth wedding?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I guess we'll be forced to meet Jill on Monday. Tomorrow's strip will surely recap the luncheon and arrival at the salon. And I was so hoping we'd get a glimpse of formidable Jill Black (before she crumbles like old cereal once Mary's set her meddling sights on her).

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh goody, A GUESSING GAME!!! "What DO the people at the hospital call Type-A Jill?"

My guess is... the letter "B" is key.
    Hmmm...Blustery? Batty? Buff? Beautiful? Buxom?

  30. Apparently the Santa Royale Bridal Salon is staffed by WW1 nurses. And the gown in Sunday's last panel--behind Adrian--looks like my mother's wedding dress from 1948.

Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
