Mary Worth 895

I think Mary Worth just found her new pupil. Over the coming months, Mary will mentor Jill in the finer subtleties of meddling. Jill will transform from whiny criticizer to evil persuader, able to instill her will on any victim. But will the transformation be soon enough to make sure Adrian doesn't look like a joke when she walks down the aisle?

Today's Full Strip

  1. Jill actually has a point. Why in the world did Adrian bring her along to ask her opinion? She already knows what kind of opinion Jill gives.

I think Adrian knows that Jill is hurting about some relationship issue and she's really being in her face about "I'm getting married and you're not." Adrian is far more subtle and cruel than we give her credit for.

  2. No, I think Adrian gets just about as much credit as she deserves.

  3. On a recent birthday, my college buddy (shut up, it was only a few decades in the past!) gave me a Very Special car freshener. i think it would apply to Jill with a little gender change (the freshener, not Jill):
"being an ******* is all part of my manly essence"

  4. I love today's secret, wild and crazy message, Wanders.

Okay Mary, pick up the pieces and pry a boring and uninpired backstory out of Jill. (I am personally inspired by cracked plaster and patched curtains, but that's just me.)

  5. T-minus 3 days to flashback. 3 days.

  6. Oh my gosh, I thought the same thing, Wanders! I thought, "We are looking right into the black eyebrows of a young Mary Worth." The will to meddle is there, obviously, she just needs a little coaching.

  7. After Giella took an intensive course over the summer titled "How to draw facial expressions with special emphasis on eyebrow details," he is showing us what he has learned. I am impressed! As usual, I am concentrating on details because I am overwhelmed by the story. What is it even about? Adrian's issues? Jill's issues? Boringness and mediocrity? Mary's reluctance to give advice - ha ha ha ha! Seriously, has Moy only concocted this story for eyebrow details? I need answers!

  8. Is Mary deaf? She didn't hear any of the exchange?

  9. Panel 2: indisputable evidence that Jill is a Jack. So I agree with whomever said that Jill is after Adrian, not Scott. I'll be proven wrong, of course, but it will be months before that happens.

  10. Shmoopie, I too wondered about Jill's excessive eyebrows and her very manly appearance. I think the moral of the story is: pent-up rage issues and Type A personalities in Santa Royale are best left to men, because if you're a woman, these things will eventually look manly, and how can you expect to ever find a man looking like that?

  11. question: and how can you expect to ever find a man looking like that?

    answer: bubble gum lip gloss?

  12. @Jared- Oh,yeah! I can see it now-

''Let me tell you a story, Mary... When I was a young girl, back in college, I was dating this really rich guy named Martin. I was madly in love with him, and I was best friends with his dear, sweet older sister Helen. We were going to be married, and I was over the moon! But then, one day I'd found out that he cheated on me, a one night stand with some townie trash. I've never been in a relationship with a man since!''

  13. Jill's lips are as black as her soul.

  14. Jill's just tired of the charade of wearing the wig and hiding who she really is: a misunderstood man named Jack.

Because that is most definitely not a woman's face we are looking at. If I'm wrong, then someone serve her up some estrogen, STAT. And some eyebrow bleach.

  15. We simply MUST find a proper suitor for Jill! Jill is a "Professional Woman", so wilbur-- good ol' boring and unimaginative, work-from-home Wilbur, isn't the best choice, I'm afraid.
What about Frank "keep it tight, Lynn!" Griffin? Why, he's even on TV sometimes!!!
Or, if we have to keep it local, how about Scott's colleague--Detective Green Jacket? He's a real sourpuss, so they might get along great!

Hey, I'm just offering advice here. If Moy won't take it, well...I can say anything I want and it won't matter!

  16. I especially like the little hearts which appear to be drifting out of Jill's head as she looks toward Scott and Adrian in Saturday's strip. Yeah, she's obsessed with one of those two, but WHICH one??

  17. We like Jill just the way she is.

    Jodie Foster
    Ellen DeGeneres

  18. ?????? Do they have changing rooms in Sta Royale stationery stores? On Saturday, Mary was wearing white, yellow, and black. Adrian was wearing bright red. Scott was wearing a gray jacket with a black turtleneck. Lo and behold! On Sunday, Mary is suddenly in rose and black, Adrian is green, and Scott is wearing the obligatory Sta Royale orange jacket. Only Adrian, out of spite and malice hasn't changed clothes before exiting the stationery store.

  19. The colorist waved a magic wand in the stationery store on Sunday and changed the color of everyone's clothing--except Jill's. As usual, she refuses to go along with the program.

  20. Where are you guys reading the Sunday Mary Worth? I can't get the Sunday to come up?! I thought Moy and Giella had lost interest in this storyline too.

  21. @djangosmom-- same here, I can't pull the comic up today, either! I've tried several times with no luck.

  22. I can't get Sunday comics to come up, either. (And my newspaper, the "Oregonian," dropped Mary eons ago.) However, if it's true that everyone but Jill changed their clothes, my guess is that the three of them ditched her, went out to Adrian's dressing room/car, made mean comments about Jill, changed clothes, and thus refreshed, returned to more of Jill's pithy commentary. I hope I can see for myself soon!

  23. From "Mary Worth and Me," I click on the link in the right column near the top that says "Read today's Mary Worth at the Washington Post." Enjoy!

Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
