Mary Worth 948

I don't know which is more insulting to our resident punching bag Wilbur Weston, the fact that his own daughter says she may not follow him back on Twitter in Panel 2, or the terribly unflattering angle at which Joe Giella drew panel 1. This is one screen no one wants to stare at.

Today's Full Strip

  1. Well, well. Take a few days off with blizzards and work, only to come back to Mary and what do I get?

A big ol' face full o' Wilbur.

    i'm sorry!

  2. Geez! Dawn shows up at dinner for ONE NIGHT with her electronic gizmo and all of a sudden dear old dad can no longer relate to her! We are talking about one insecure mess of a human!!

  3. Oh, and another thing - are purple and orange the only colors available for clothing in the comicverse?? Check out the clothes in Apt. 3-G - these must be the colors of the year!!

  4. Yes, Wanders. The first thought that came into my head after reading today's strip was the revelation that Dawn has friends. Who knew?

  5. Wait a minute- none of you are real people? OMG, what's going on? Are you all a bunch of robots or something? I'm frightened and confused!

  6. Wanders: it may be time to add "I Will Follow" by U2 to the Jukebox. If the Charterstone Condo Board allows, of course--it is circa 1980s, and this strip has suddenly leapfrogged from the 1950s to 2005.

  7. Hold yer horses, Wilbur. Didn't you just spend MONTHS scouring Facebook looking for someone to connect with?

What could Dawn possibly Twitter about.

"Today I saw a smallish horse", "Maybe fish for dinner", or, "I can't even think of 170 characters, let alone twitter them!"

  8. LOL, good one Scurvy Rickets!

Wilbur, get with the program! 2,500 of Dawn's Twitter "friends" already know what you just served up for dinner!

  9. Boy, Moy is really cramming in brand names now. In the past, she would have referred to it as "Tweeter." She must be getting tie-in deals out the wazoo!

  10. Doonesbury is doing the topic of electronic alienation this week. The difference is, the story there will wrap up in one week versus who knows how long in the Worthverse.

  11. Isn't it odd that this week's strips began on Monday with Dr. Jeff in an orange shirt and continued with Wilbur the rest of the week in the SAME ORANGE SHIRT?

  13. I'm with Chester on this (and I loved your "fish for dinner" tweets, Chester!). It is wildly inconsistent with previous plots, to have Wilbur so confused and upset that Dawn is connecting to people on the Internets and not in real life. Didn't we spend most of last winter watching Wilbur "connecting" on Facebook on every room in his house? Does Moy think people just forgot? Not us!

Also I think Moy has never used Twitter herself. I use it and Facebook, and I have to say that I don't think of Twitter as connecting to my friends. That's what Facebook is for. Twitter is more about getting and sending short bits of info. I'm surprised Wilbur isn't calling it "the Twitter."

New tweet from Dawn: "OMG you are not going to BELIEVE how lame my Dad is. Calgon, take me away!" Maybe we should comment on the rest of this storyline just in tweets.

  15. Okay, Dawn, here is what you need to do (and I know Mary will back me up on this): you get up off your knees, put down your gizmo, put on your white tennis shoes and a baseball cap, and you get out in those woods with dear ol' dad to do some frolicking and fishing! This will bring you two closer together, and will get some of that appalling excess weight off Wilbur.

Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
