Mary Worth 960

What you're seeing are simple sentences because a comic strip is not Charles Dickens. Oh, never mind!

  1. Wilber has been Jekyll & Hyde with the facial expressions since Mary walked through the door.

Kindly, informative and helpful then shifting quickly into "I'm going to cut your head off and put it on a stick you foolish woman!!!".

Has Dawn replaced his Zoloft with sugar pills or is he just hungry again?

Either way, RUN MARY!!!!! Hit DEL then ESC!!!!

  2. I agree with Steven W4922..

Wilber has been very short with Mary lately!

It's okay, Wilber....just because Mary doesn't know what a blog is (*cries*)doesn't mean that it's the end of the world :P

  3. Wilbur has issues.

I mean, beyond what to put on his next sandwich, or hoping his fishing buddy really is his lost son.

  4. What is the deal with Wilbur?! He's beyond Zoloft, he needs lithium! One day he's mad at Dawn about tweeting and blogging, the next he's mad at Mary for not tweeting and blogging. Maybe he needs his amoebas back.

  5. If we're lucky, maybe Wilbur will diagram out a short sentence. That should last only a few days.

  6. @Dave in Parma: Just curious...do you mind telling me where in Parma you live? I'm on Brownfield.

  7. @Dave in Parma: Is that Parma, Italy? According to Wikipedia, it is: ."...a city in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna famous for its ham, its cheese..." Maybe that's where Wilbur is from! I think I'll move there, too.

  8. I can tell Mary's head is just spinning from all this new information! I mean... 140 characters?... sentences about celebrities? something called "blogs"!? Heavens to Betsey! I good stiff drink with Jill would be therapeutic right about now! And how's that honeymoon going!?

  9. @Kathyo--Nottingham, behind Normandy.

@Elaine--no, Ohio, not Italy nor France.

  10. p.s. Kathyo--I lived on Renwood, a street over from Brownfield, on the Ridge to Westminster side though in the early 1990's. Small world!

  11. I didn't realize Mary was so cognitively impaired. She seems to be having an awfully hard time wrapping her head around the idea of simple sentences.

I wonder if she's been checked for signs of stroke?

  12. mary better watch out wilbers ready to bellybump her then dive off the computer chair for the big splash.

  13. Let's not be too hard on Wilbur for having a short temper with Mary. After all, could any of us say we wouldn't feel exactly the same?

  14. @Elaine: Yes, come join us in Parma! Unlike its Italian namesake, Parma, Ohio is famous for pierogies, polka dances, pink lawn flamingos and chrome gazing balls.

If we could see Wilbur's feet, we might know if he's a Parmanian. Does he wear white socks?

  15. Oh, Wanders...what a nice jolt of nostalgia! We had "Classics Illustrated" comic books when I was a child. I never would have read "Treasure Island" or "Robinson Crusoe" any other way when I was ten. It makes me sad now to realize those were nothing but bunches of sentences with some pictures.

I think Mary is toying with Wilbur, pretending not to have heard the exotic term "blogs." In the 2nd panel, she looks like she's trying to keep from smirking.

  16. In honor of Parma, Ohio, I wonder if the Charterstone board would consider "Who stole the Kishka?" as a Jukebox selection.

@ Kathyo & Dave in Parma: GROUP! Cool it with the boom-booms!

  18. @kathyo - I am touched and honored! I would love to move to Parma, just as soon as I can do without this little thing called a 'job'. Which is more than we can say for Wilbur - how the heck does he support himself and Dawn?

  19. Is it just me, or is saying, in 2011, that someone is "into" emails and websites, akin to saying someone is "into" grocery shopping and making dinner on a regular basis? I, personally, am "into" waking up every day and going to work. I think I'm addicted!!

  20. I'm with you, Charley! If this was taking place 20 or even 10 years ago, I could buy the story- especially with someone of Mary's age- but my husband has an aunt that's in her 80's, and she has been sending email & googling for years! Granted, she tends to send a LOT of forwards, but she gets a kick out of it. Even people that don't have a computer have at least heard about what's on the internet, by now. I remember reading about what a blog was back in 1998 or '99!

  21. @Purple Knif/Pandagrandma: That was BOSS! I wanted to be a go-go dancer in 1966.

Sorry everyone: I'm trying to stay on topic here, but what more is there to stay about this boring storyline so far?

  22. Hey, Elaine. I am in a play with a friend of yours here in NYC! I saw your lime-hatted cat on her facebook page (birthday greetings to her)and recognized you from MW and Me!

    Small world.

  23. Remember, this is a HUGE leap for Mary who, I'm sure, is still "into" 8-track tapes!

omg, what is Wilbur about to DO, what with that one hand on Mary's shoulder and the other about to throw a liquid in her face???

    ReplyDelete
  24. Chester the Dog - it IS a small world! wow...thanks for the update!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh, Mary, REALLY!? Is it always about YOU?? I mean, "I don't see myself attracted to it." Frankly, I don't think Wilbur gives a rat's patootie...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Vicki, Mary is still into 78's!

The second panel of today's (2/18) strip has a double entendre feel to Mary and Wilbur's dialogue, like an episode of "Three's Company." Like Janet misinterpreting an overheard conversation between Jack and Chrissy, maybe Dawn will overhear Mary and Wilbur and get the wrong idea!

In any case, it might help to enjoy the strip more if we think of it as having a laugh track!

  27. Mary: "(shrug) I don't see the point?!"

Translation: "I'm struggling with how to meddle in your disagreement with your daughter because I don't know what I'm talking about."

Could this be the first topic Mary is NOT an expert on? Will it stop her from meddling?! (ok I went too far there)

  28. You know, I have the weird feeling that this is some kind of a re-write. When we saw the closeup of Mary's feet on the stool last week, I thought for sure she was going to take a nasty tumble, end up with a broken ankle, and confined to her bed for the next few months- where she would learn to appreciate things like a Kindle, the internet and other 21st century conveniences. Watching Wilbur trying to explain Twitter to an ''I'm not getting it!'' Mary was NOT what I thought was going to be the next big story.

  29. re: 2/19/11

"Whole worlds a person can get wrapped up in," Mary? Wait'll you see Second Life.

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Charley and Maude Findlay: I thought the same thing. I am "into" computers and email and the Internet because not only do I need to for my job, but also because that's how most people communicate and do their research and get their news now. The world IS online now, Mary, no matter how hard you try to deny it. I think I mentioned once before that I gave my father an iPad for his 92nd birthday. Come on, Moy, who are you trying to educate here?

And, all of you Parmanians and Akronites (?), I live in the same general area of Northeastern Ohio, and my husband used to live in Parma Heights. Although it's off the subject, it would be fun so see how far-flung this blog's readers are.

Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
