I know how Dawn feels. I can't stay present in anyone's company either! I keep trying to tell them about the current wonderful Mary Worth story, and they just sneer at me and walk away. Fortunately, I have my pictures and briefcase to keep me company late at night.
Today's Full Strip
What father would have a portrait photo taken of himself cupping his grown daughter's chin in his fingertips??? I am finally speechless.
ReplyDeleteThat is the creepiest father-daughter picture I've ever seen. Time to call the cops.
ReplyDeleteIt took me awhile to wrap my mind around the expression "stay present in anyone's company." Do people really talk like that?
ReplyDeleteTony--no, no they don't.
ReplyDeleteI see Dawn took the time to change her pajama top during her call for help.
ReplyDeleteHelp me fellow MW fans, I'm losing interest. The last 6 - 9 months have been tough for me. I can't seem to maintain focus on, or care about, the story lines. Has this happened to others (I'm a 3.5 year follower of MW)? Thank you.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous 6:04 PM: ...while Cathy had her hair cut and restyled.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous 6:30 PM - no, we're all having trouble staying present for each other. It has something to do with that ultra creepy father-daughter picture, I'm certain.
ReplyDeleteHow many friends can Dawn have? And who's online 24/7 with her? Certainly not Cathy, who's trying to tell her to get a life. For once, I sympathize with Wilbur...if only he weren't a borderline pedophile...
Meanwhile, Wilbur sits up in bed, humming ''Butterfly Kisses'', also unable to sleep or stay present in anyone's company.
ReplyDeleteSPOILER ALERT - SPOILER ALERT!!!
ReplyDeleteI believe we're heading for "DIGITAL DETOX!" My paper, The Plain Dealer here in Cleveland (hello, Dave in Parma!), published an article today on a reporter trying to do without her electronic devices for three days by checking into a Chicago hotel that caters to this need! It appears this is actually becoming a niche industry in the world of travel - only Moy and Giella will get EVERY detail wrong, I'm sure. I think I won't be able to sleep waiting for tomorrow's installment of the strip.
Oh, and how creepy is today's portait of Wilbur and Dawn? Must. Not. "Return." Dinner!!!
At least Dawn isn't crossed eyed anymore. Not quite as haggard either. But can she speak normally? Are extremes like monosyllables and phrases like "stay present in anyone's company" her only options?
ReplyDeleteIs Salvador Dali the new illustrator of this strip? Because I clearly remember that photo of Dawn and Wilbur being very different a day or two ago. It was disturbing enough then, but now....ick.
ReplyDeleteThis storyline is so boring/creepy that Adrian & Scott's honeymoon is beginning to sound pretty good.
ReplyDeleteIs it too late and/or evil to hope for an all consuming house fire?
ReplyDeleteThat family portrait is a little like 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'...the further apart that Dawn and Wilbur grow, the cozier those two get in the photo. You'll have to excuse me, I really don't want to see what that photo looks like tomorrow.
ReplyDeletethat photo is creepy. This story is boring. I might stop reading.
ReplyDeleteIs Moy driving everyone away so that she can stop writing this pathetic strip?
because she "can't stay present" in anyone's company?
Elaine, I think you're right. And I don't want to see the next step in the progression either.
ReplyDeleteDawn's avatar is probably blonde, and 3:00 AM in California is Happy Hour in Vietnam.
ReplyDeleteWilbur's prolly over in his bed eating crackers and cookies right now.
ReplyDeleteit occurred to me that maybe we're missing the real angle. Could this be Moy's attempt to try to reclaim what's left of her readership back from Wanders--kind of like a cat spraying for territory. Moy/Wilbur/Mary tells us the internet is evil, when in fact she just doesn't want us here laughing about the strip.
ReplyDeleteWell played Karen Moy--well played.
Schmoopie--saw that article and Dawn's issues were the first thing I thought of.
Wanders, I have been out of it, sick for the past 2-1/2 weeks. I spent today scrolling through your updates in order to catch back up and I have to again say how much I love this blog.
ReplyDeleteLaughter truly is the best medicine, and I got a huge dose of it with my research.
Thanks for the belly laughs.
Cathy is way too good to be friends with Dawn.
ReplyDeleteHey, if it is 3 AM, whats Cathy doing up with her hair and makeup all done up nice? Is she just coming in or...just going out?
Was there a dance at Local U that Dawn decided not to attend, opting to spend time on MySantaRoyaleSpace instead?

ReplyDeleteSo Dawn has an E-diction!
Maybe Dawn should try morphine, it'll help her sleep.
ReplyDelete@tuffenuf: I feel the same way about the comments section of this blog. Thanks for the complement.
ReplyDeleteErm. What about Dawn's connection to Cathy? Why do I get the hunch that Cathy is quickly becoming what Sammy Lyons and Woody Hills used to be - her Schmoopie?
