Wish I could change my hair and my face as quickly and as often as Giella-drawn characters can. I would make myself about 10 years younger, grow my hair out about 4 inches, and make myself a stunning redhead.
Wasn't Dr Drew wearing a suit yesterday, after wearing a doctor-uniform the days before? Now he's back in doctor-uniform. Is there ANY continuity to the artwork in this strip?
Oh, and wasn't "Liza Colby" that shrew on "All My Children" about 30 years ago? Is Moy getting product placement now from soap operas?
I don't know how long I can bear this current storyline. These are characters that I'd cross the street to avoid talking to in real life. Why should I subject myself to their idiotic pretend-grownup conversation?
Well, maybe because I'm waiting for Liza to jump over that table and land in Drew's arms. The situation would stil be boring, but the artwork could be interesting.
phoebes in santa fe, I had the same thought about Liza Colby when I learned her last name this morning.
I looked up Liza Colby on Wikipedia (because I really am that big of a dork) and learned the character made a comeback in the 90s. Do they eat salmon squares in Pine Valley?
My theory still holds that, as unbelievable as it may be, each MW story is more boring than the one preceding it. We could well be moving towards the riveting tale of Dr. Doofus Corey telling Nurze Liza how paint dries much slower in the humid climate of Vietnam - especially when you buy cheap paint with those "limited funds!" Oh, yes, tell me more!!!
Does anyone use their hands in something resembling a normal manner? We know they don't use normal speech, but between the karate chops, the raised fingers, the imperial waves and the chin touching, I don't know what to expect.
@phoebes, 10:04 AM- I remember Liza Colby, from All My Children! I was a kid, and had sun poisoning that summer, so I got totally caught up in that show! I can still smell the nasty calamine lotion. She was a nasty, mean, vicious girl, that was always scheming to get some boring guy named Greg Nelson away from sweet little Jenny Gardener. I wonder if THIS Liza Colby will be as evil? We can only hope!
phoebes and maude, I also remember Liza Colby and Jenny and Greg...I was a college freshman with three free afternoons a week and a grandmother who was addicted to AMC. I miss my grandmother, who would shake her head sorrowfully and tsk-tsk over Erika's shenanigans. I think I'll just focus on those fond memories to make the pain of the new storyline hurt less.
GIella's back to drawing Escher-esque locations. That Exit door frame is screwing with me especially. Is it going into the floor in front of those two blue diners? Or is that supposed to be behind them?
Is it an exit tunnel? Does it lead to some sort of limbo realm? Is it cemented up as a cruel reminder to the residents that the tedium of their lives is literally inescapable?
I'm kind of hoping that Liza is, in fact, an evil galactic being capable of morphing at will, and is in fact the same entity as Jill Black. Soon she will be spewing obscenities, making vulgar passes and generally entertaining us. At least, I can hope so.
Oh, Jill, we so miss you...
BTW, my word verification is "excesses". Could we have some please? Preferably excesses that involve an open bar at a wedding rehearsal. Thanks.
Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
I'm really enjoying all the exclamation points in the recent panels! Limited funds! How thrilling!

ReplyDeleteAfter this inane conversation, OF COURSE Drew wants to be back in Vietnam. He'd probably like to be anywhere but the hospital cafeteria right now.
ReplyDeleteDidn't they decide to meet for coffee?? In those tall glasses?? I think their hands are getting a little warm by now.

I once used limited funds to build a shed in my back yard. When it fell down, I found that wood and nails worked better.
ReplyDeleteLimited funds? Did you blow that enormous check from Ted Confey on Brylcreem?
ReplyDeleteIf Drew & Liza are "catching up," does this mean they have some history with each other?

ReplyDeleteWhy is that guy with the tray hiding behind Dr. Drew's word balloon? Is he too embarrassed to be seen in this comic strip?
ReplyDeleteA homely, mannish, middle-aged possible nurse. Wow, is that the best Dr. Drew can do?
ReplyDeleteUsed to be, a fine-looking hunk of doctor like that could take his pick. Guess the dowturn in the economy has really hurt medicine.
"We had limited funds, so we just tossed the villagers a twenty and let em fight for it."
ReplyDeleteNow all we need is Jill to run through the cafeteria yelling, "No Liza with a Z, love isn't for you! Get away while you can!"
ReplyDeleteDREW: Who is that?"
LIZA: "She hired you, but tell me about you limited funds."

ReplyDeleteIt would appear that the soap opera Liza Colby was an entertaining soap opera character while the Mary Worth Liza Colby is not.
ReplyDeletemeanwhile, I wonder how Dawn is coming along with her painting lessons...

@ Vicki (7:57) - She's probably giving lessons on "Watching Paint Dry."
ReplyDelete(See Shmoopie's comment above.)
Apparently Vietnam owns the market on magical colour changing jackets. I want one!
