Mary Worth 1,014

You've sent so many text messages that I had to grow another right arm just to work my texting machine.

Today's Full Strip

  1. Maybe Giant Foot Man is kicking Liza in the head. And, really, could you blame him?

  2. Is it really Liza? I'm confused. This lady looks different in every panel since...whenever this doomed story began. Who is the real Liza?

Nonetheless, I think this week will be awesome, with Liza the Shape Shifter letting the crazy out big time. Or maybe the conversation in this odd hallway will just go on and on and on as per usual with the customary "summing up" on Sunday to remind us that, yes, Liza sent 20 text messages and still wants to go out to dinner while Drew remains cautiously put off.

  3. We've secretly replaced Liza with a cardboard cutout and a tape recorder. Let's see if Drew notices.

  4. The artwork is always strange, but I think this is over the top, with the extra arm and that random leg.

Maybe that guy was walking down the hall an had to suddenly turn and face the wall to avoid seeing the lovey-lovey between these two kids. Of course, he's neglecting his patients while he waits, but that's no big deal, right? Love comes first.

  5. This is cool..been looking for a place to comment on the comic!

  6. Where the heck did all those disembodied hands come from?? I can't figure out some of them in the second panel. It would be 'handy' to have spare hands to text with - maybe Dawn should grab a few for herself.

  7. Ahh, so many hands, it's the stuff of nightmares!

  8. There was a fun panel over the weekend (Sunday I think) where there were two background hospital people staring intently at a file cabinet/old-fashioned switchboard.

I think Mr. Cuffs is a hospital curtain inspector.

  9. I love the cheery oblivousness of "I outdid myself!" She's off in crazy town and she hasn't a clue! And the angle of Drew and LiZa in that Mr, Cuffs panel is rather disturbing. I'd prefer to see a bit more personal space between them.

  10. Lizzzza needs to go kite flying...off a short pier.

  11. Never having had a boyfriend or common sense, Liza has no idea how to behave in a relationship. It is unlikely that she will take rejection well. This offers many interesting possible plot lines, none of which will be taken by Moy.

  12. The lines around Liza's head in panel 1 suggest a swivel motion -- undoubtedly so she can gaze upon her beloved. However, her head position post-swivel has her looking straight ahead. Does that mean she was looking backward over her left shoulder before Drew's hunkitude walked down the hall? What was she looking at? The guy with the cuffed pants?

  13. I noticed the "switchboard" like contraption this weekend too Toots. The lady was furiously working trying to get all Liza's text messages connected through the hospital exchange.

This stalking problem wouldn't exist if they just stuck to simple, corded phones.

  14. 20 texts is a lot? I have friends that I mainly communicate with through texts, and 4-500 texts a week isn't that uncommon. (And no, I don't type in ''text speak'', I type out whole words & sentences!) Then again, I'm not a character in Mary Worth, where anything having to do with technology is viewed as evil or suspicious.

  15. Why the insistence on dinner out all the time?
Is LiZa ashamed to invite Drew to her apartment?
Are the past few boyfriends who rejected her ,
    now part of the foundations?

  16. @Maude Findlay: 20 texts isn't a lot, except if they all say 'C U, Lover' and 'Let's do dinner' and 'I LUV YOU'. I text with my daughters all day long, but if I start texting them this kind of stuff they'll have me put away. Or at least I hope they will.

  17. @ Shmoopie 8:04: Oh, don't worry, LiZa is no lady...

And I would say that 20 text messages is a lot when there are not 20 replies to go with them.

  18. It must really be a laugh-riot around the ol' sketch pad while these cartoonists come up with this stuff. The ridiculous plot lines, the preposterous artwork...

  19. Oh goody, the hallway has been turned into an ice rink in panel two! Mary Worth, ever the ice skating enthusiast, will be double-axeling into the picture shortly with her volunteer cart in tow.
She'll explain to Dr. Drew that good manners would have dictated PROMPT replies to LiZa's twenty text messages!

  20. Vicki, that was my very first thought when I saw this panel: Drew and LiZa, for some bizarre reason, are on a skating rink! They've fallen down, gotten their arms all tangled together, and LiZa's head is resting on someone's large foot. Here are the two things that I CAN"T figure out, though: why is that other person not wearing skates, and why does LiZa look so cheerful under these circumstances?

  21. I can visualize the creepy all-seeing Giella-head, floating around to give us more insane perspectives of really inane activity.

    And I don't like what I see.

  22. The hand holding the cell phone must belong to Hospital Hi-Fi.

Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
