Mary Worth 1,041

Drew's and Mary's fingers are having a little trouble today with all the anxiety, so much so that Mary's thumb has actually wandered over to the wrong side of her hand, or is that just an optical illusion brought on by the forced perspective of the sidewalk? Today's Full Strip

  1. Today we have a DOUBLE FACE TOUCH!!! Drew facepalms while Mary (remember her? I think she was last in the strip in 1949). I think the double face touch means *lots* of emotion. Or something like that.

And I love the way bushes appear and disappear behind Drew in a few short panels. Are they growing *triffids* at Mountview Hospital??? I get confused the way these plants keep shapeshifting...

  2. There are definitely some "hand challenges" going on today. I'm worried about Drew's shriveled little hand in the featured panel. How will he ever operate again? Or turn the pages on his cherished Peace Village reports?

  3. Let's take a time out and think.

Do you know of any young, tall, dark and handsome, doctor-hunk who would seek dating advice from a 90 year old woman?

I long for the days of Bonnie?Bonnie Johnson and her shopping addiction. At least that was more realistic!

  4. Lots of hand fun today. First, as Wanders noted, Mary has her right hand/left arm problem, although I'm sure it swivels around, just like her head.

In the same panel, not the subliminal response by Dr. Drew's right hand to Mary's comments: is he subtly flipping her the bird?

    You're #1 Mary!

  5. The best way to get her to accept your breakup, Drew? Do something to make her not WANT to date you anymore. Stop bathing. Stop brushing your teeth. Eat smelly food for lunch and become a close talker. She'll be transferring jobs in no time.

  6. Stop making fun of Mary! Doesn't anyone realize that she is having an actual medical emergency today? Just look at that hand! She needs to get to the emergency room and have it rotated back into place STAT. She only said hello to Drew to be polite, but now he's blocking her way and going on and on with his wah, wah, wah, Liza won't accept that I broke up with her. What am I to do?
Drew, you sorry excuse for a studly doctor. Let the woman pass already! She may never bake a pie again!!

  7. Why doesn't Drew just tell LiZa that he's got a fiancee waiting for him back in Vietnam, & she was just a fling? Too easy, right?

  8. You know how Moy skipped ahead in time during this story, over the course of several intimate moments or at least one date? I think she could have skipped this scene where Drew defines the story's conflict AGAIN.

  9. What the ???... Drew tells Mary all the juicy details about crazy LiZa, but leaves poor 'ol dad in the dark!?

I thought Mary was looking a bit feeble the other day, but now I understand. That twisted hand would put anyone off their game! Remembering the tall stool, I wonder if she hurt it whilst putting the Kelk up on the high shelf in her kitchen?

  10. @Shmoopie: Thanks for keeping our dear Mary's welfare in mind. Drew can be so obtuse.

  11. Dr. Drew, just show LiZa your bank statement...you won't look nearly as attractive when she finds out your salary for the last few years has been paid in dongs at an exchange rate of 0.00005 per USD.

  12. To Dr Drew:

Two brief lessons in current English usage:

1.The expression "I was dating ..." can only be used after some more or less significant time period. The correct usage here is "I had one date/two dates with..."

    2. "We broke up" almost always some kind of a mutual decision. You also cannot say "I broke up with her," since as you kvetch to Mary, you failed. The only thing you can say is "I tried [unsuccessfully] to break up with her."

  13. Drew, isn't it about time you went and played in the street?

  14. "and Mary, she took the Mens Fitness magazines from the library cart!"

  15. Shmoopie, Mary dislocated her left thumb doing a quick change from a white to a black blouse in the time it took to change camera angles. See, they had let the continuity director go due to budget cuts.

  16. From Saturday's strip:

No, Mary, Liza is not "confused". Liza is "psycho".

  17. Am I the only one to immediately think of the Wicked Witch of the West,in the face-touching second panel of Saturday's comic? Click this link to see if you agree: http://tinyurl.com/3ds8r96

  19. I can see that Punky. The question is, is that Mary's right hand or left hand touching her face?

  20. Mary's advice in the Sunday strip is so perfect. Avoid someone you work with. We'll see how well this works when Drew's in an operating room with LiZa as attending nurse.

Oh, who am I kidding, surely the hospital doesn't trust Drew with surgical equipment!

  21. Well alrighty then...just "avoid" LiZa and she'll lose interest...sez Mary.
