Mary Worth 1,116

In case anyone was wondering: Despite the fact that we first met Gina on July 27, today's thought bubble confirms that this story hasn't even started yet.

If you're looking for action, this is the comic strip for you. A three-weeks-long conversation at Diner, followed by watching the protagonist conduct an Internet search. Don't forget, Gina told us that her dad once witnessed a gruesome mob killing. That was good to hear about. That's about as much action as I can handle.

  1. I wonder what all those keys do.

My laptop doesn't look like Gina's.

  2. MySpace still exists?

Let's hope to God it only takes once to find the right Bobby, or we could be in for a long decade. The swing/miss stories could be fun though.

  3. The cruel hand of fate stifles a yawn.

  4. Gina, I suggest starting at Ebay and looking for a laptop with a keyboard that actually works normally. It looks like she is typing into a crossword puzzle. NO wonder is it taking her so long to get thru college.

  5. I'm afraid that Gina really is going to set off rockets from her laptop. That thing is a lethal weapon, someone should take it away from her.

  6. "My Bobby." This . . . this is not going to end well.

    Also, *SNORK* at heydave. :-)

  7. My Bobby lies over the ocean,
My Bobby lies over the sea,
My Bobby lies over the ocean,
O, bring back my Bobby to me.

  8. Gina has/knows how to use a computer and is aware of the Google and all these other sites? Well, my mind is blown for the day!

  9. @Elaine: you are right, that laptop looks like Mission Control. Take that Kadafi!!!

I just hope Gina doesn'tend up with Bobby BROWN by accident. That could get messy.

  10. If not a crossword puzzle @ Chester, she may be playing Othello.

Hopefully Bobby's Compuserve account is still active.

  11. Could Gina be computer savy enough to be listening to Janis Joplin on Pandora as she searches? Is Salinas anywhere near Santa Royale?

"One day up near Salinas,I let him slip away,
He's looking for that home and I hope he finds it,
But I'd trade all of my tomorrows for just one yesterday
To be holding Bobby's body next to mine."

  12. If Gina's search leads her to Mary Worth and Me,
    will we all wake up?

  13. "Where should I start? Well, first I check my ranking on ratemyponytail.com. Then I'll find my Bobby. Oooo wait, let me check out Yelp.com and see if Diner's one star rating has changed! Then it's on to Bobby!"

  14. If she makes it to You Tube this story could last years.

  15. Dave in Parma: I thought the same thing about the MySpace reference! Does anyone use that anymore?
...and wow, that Gina sure has some "man-hands" is that from being twisted by fate's cruel hand...hmm??

  16. Anonymous -- Lol at your song. My mom, whose name is Bonnie (No, not Bonnie Johnson!), hated that song because she always had a teacher that sang it at her.

Chester - We could only hope to get a storyline as exciting as that!

Toots -- If she finds "Diner," she might read a few nasty comments about how the service there stinks! "Some dopey waitress with a ponytail keeps ignoring us."

  17. I wonder if Gina will come across any embarrassing ''Making emo faces while shirtless in my bathroom mirror'' photos from Bobby's long forgotten circa 2005 Myspace?

  18. Gina, don't forget to check Friendster! Maybe Bobby's still on Prodigy.

  19. Congratulations to Moy for writing the most annoying comic strip storyline ever.

  20. My enjoyment of today's comments is inversely proportional to the feelings I have for this storyline. I remember the things I used to say out loud after reading Mary Worth (a colorful and adult version of the classic talk bubble '?') (OK, I still do say those things out loud), but then I found this web site, and no longer have to suffer alone.

Here's my guess: Karen Moy has anticipated the tricky "how do you do an Internet search on someone with so generic a name" question. Thanks to us, of course. In a few days (no rush, natch, we have all year), Gina will remember that Bobby's mother's name is Ephigenia or something equally distinctive, and bingo, we'll have a match.

  21. We should just be grateful that Mary didn't introduce Gina to Wilbur Weston for a Facebook tutorial.

Commentors, you have outdone yourselves today!

  22. Does it really matter which Bobby Black she finds? Gina is so wrapped around the axles on this she will gladly accept ANY Bobby Black that agrees to meet her. And then we can move on to another stalking storyline just like the last one.

  23. Found him. I think he's Charley Smith's dealer.

  24. I don't think that the genius of Karen Moy is getting the due that it deserves. It's damn hard work writing to make it appear that she is a talentless wench in need of a thrashing. But the fact is, she has hit on a formula that gurantees success. The reason we all read Mary Worth is to see how bad her stories can actually get. The worse they get, the more fun we have. As entertainment value, Mary Worth is the most entertaining comic strip written today. Anyone saying otherwise should be sentenced to read a 550 page compliation of Marmaduke. The burning question is to what depths she can descend. I, for one, do not think that she has yet hit her stride. She will prove that she is so good at what she does that her writing will continue to be the best because it is the worst.

  25. ratemyponytail.com ... still laughing ...

  26. I hope Gina somehow stumbles upon Wilbur's facebook page and sends him a "friend" request! That would just make his whole day, as he's up to about eight friends and counting!

Loved all the comments today-- lots of LOL's.

  27. I am QUITE sure, that once Gina finds Bobby, she will ALSO find out that he has joined the same MOB that forced her whole family to go underground. Mark my words!

  28. bobby black only has webtv so how will gina find him ?

  29. Maybe part of the witness protection program was a really lame attempt to pass Gina's family off as Japanese. That might explain the ponytail and the gigantic Kanji keyboard.

WV: "drear". Need I say more?

Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
