Mary Worth 1,131

The New York Blazes are one of the country's greatest teams. Last year, they took home the coveted MLS Cup 1st place certificate for the third straight season!

  1. The Blazes won the coveted MLS Cup *certificate*? I thought everyone in soccer won a trophy.

  2. Cell phone! Didn't think they had that technology in Santa Royale. Verizon is really making in-roads.

Too bad Gina didn't leave her area code.

  3. On an unrelated note, while reading MW certainly dumbs me down, I can always count on the educational aspects of the comments.

I must confess had never heard the term vuvuzela, although I was familiar with it. Much to my surprise this morning while listening to Satelite Radio, the news commentator compared something to a vuvuzela! How smart I felt!

  4. Thanks a lot, Mary Worth. All I had to do is read the line "My name again is Gina Jiminez." And what's stuck in my head? A song from one of my favorite Simpsons episodes, when Homer goes into the snowplow business and makes a TV ad: "Call Mr. Plow, that's my name, that name again is Mr. Plow!"

  5. Personally, when I opened the MW comic this morning, I was thrilled to see a different character. After interminable weeks of Mary/Gina/Diner, it was quite refreshing. Even if the guy looks like Jabba the Hut, or whatever that things name was.

  6. I predict that Bobby's failure to call, because he doesn't get her message, will devastate Gina. Until, of course, he sees her in the stands during the game and, abandoning his team, runs to her (letting in the winning goal). Their joyful embrace provokes a collective "Awwwww" from the crowd.

These developments should take us through the end of November.

  7. When I hear "soccer team manager" this guy is not the type who comes to mind. He seems more like one of the mobsters involved in the gruesome mob killing witnessed by Gina's father. And, what kind of laptop pc is that, anyway?

This is the second time we've heard about "Kickingit" magazine, and both times I thought it was a publication for speakers of Tlingit.

  8. Oops - correction! It's not a laptop. It's a desktop with the keyboard shoved under the monitor. I just tried that with my pc, but my arms don't reach.

Mr. Manager is NOT going to write down Gina's number with that pencil - he's going to eat it.

  10. Jabba the Hut - good one, Hermite! I can't stop staring at Jabba's left arm. It looks like someone left it unfinished in a high school sculpting class.

  11. So I guess a team from New York City (!) was forced to hire some thug as manager.

You'll note his face touch has morphed into the crumpled cruel fist of fate.

How he inserted a pen into it is uncanny, unless he's really squeezing out from within his pudgy digits. But I love the evolution of his sneer.

And I still prefer to think of the magazine title as Kickin' Git.

  12. All in all, I do agree that the introduction of a new character makes me feel giddy. It's sort of a buzzy feeling.

  13. I like "Kickin Git" title, too, Dave@8.56a. Though I was expecting soccer team manager to bemoan Bobby's continued exposure in "Men's Fitness"...and THOSE follow-up calls.

  14. I predict that Jaba will never find work as a receptionist, after he quits the BLAZES.

  15. Team Manager seems jealous of Bobby's "groupie fans." He is so angry that someone wants to give Bobby her number that he's about to throw a punch. Shockingly, in panel 2, a pencil -- stand-in for a dagger, perhaps -- appears in Manager's clenched fist.

  16. Meanwhile, Moy and Giella desperately leave yet another message on the answering machine. The delay which has forced us to wait endlessly in Diner was caused by their inability to get a return call from Manager.

They just want him to send them a picture so they would have a clue what a soccer team manager's office looks like.

He won't return their call. He is much too busy playing with what looks like a bizarre support for his laptop, but is in fact a cool usb missile launcher. I don't really blame him. Those are a lot of fun.

  17. And Chris Christie gives Hina the brushoff! Love it!

  18. @ Tony 8:46 -I predict that Bobby will get the message, but not the number. He will look for Gina in the stands during the game and, abandoning his team, he will run (letting in the winning goal) to someone he imagines to be Gina BUT...

Bobby will run to someone else, to a woman who looks more like Anne Eiffel from the Luann comic strip.

  19. Gina@9:43 a.m.: I KNEW that Team Manager reminded me of someone, but I could not quite think who it was. Thanks!

  20. It IS Chris Christie!

I wonder if he takes a helicopter to the games.

When I read the strip this morning on the Washington Post's website, I knew something good was about to happen!!! Will Gina be rejected? Will Bobby ever learn that Gina was trying to contact him? I guess we'll be waiting until Christmas

duckduckgoose -- Love the Anne Eifell reference! Whatever happened to her? She returned from Japan and was at Weenie World for a week, and now we have to read about Gunther's love love? Boo!

  22. In the Worthiverse, there is no MLB, no NFL, no NBA- there is only Major League Soccer. And in the Worthiverse, the Mob controls MLS. Do I have to go on with this? OK. Don Christie recognizes the name Jiminez. He hangs up the phone and calls his Santa Royale family minions...To Be Continued fo the next twelve weeks...

  23. Shouldn't this guy be eating a sandwich?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Isn't Kickingit a magazine for somkers trying to kick the habit.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Toots McGee: This guy should be eating sandwich at Diner. Wait till he gets to Santa Royale and tries to get service.

  26. Finally a character who seems to be part of the real world and not Worthiverse.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah, fat and rude.
