Mary Worth 1,238

Really? REALLY? I can't even begin to parse today's strip and the inappropriateness of every word that comes out of Victor Von Underling (thank you Sandi Ego) and Colleen Colleague's mouths. Not to mention my discomfort with Nola's rising hemline. However, I'm sure you'll have something clever (and family friendly) to say.

By the way, if you haven't registered as a Santa Royale Citizen yet, please do! We are a tax-free community.

Now, I'm going to go listen to the Charterstone Jukebox and cool off.

  1. This storyline makes a lot more sense when you realize that Nola is actually a robot that has been programmed for ruthlessness in business and romance by evil genius Victor von Underling. Poor Colleen does not know this yet.

  2. There is something disturbing about Victor's hand in the second panel. Why is he pointing at the ceiling to make his point? Also, his face appears to have become oddly misshapen.

  3. So what happens if you get on the president's bad side I wonder . . . and did Mary go on a long vacation? This could be one of those storylines where Mary doesn't appear again for months.

  4. Is it possible that Our Prez is actually the poor bloke's name? It has a sort of Eastern European ring to it. Serbian? The first name is pronounced "Oor"? And what does Victor even mean with that bizarro comment? Methinks Victor has issues best explored in a non-family friendly blog.
Wanders, you are welcome for the moniker. I saw a character and did something... it's what anyone would do.

  5. I don't think that's Colleen. I think that's Amy Farrah Fowler!! Do they have scientists in Nola's office?

  6. Love the theory, Joolz! Clearly Nola flunked this blog's word verification test. I'm now picturing Nola as one of those Chatty Cathy dolls my sister had - pull the string and she says phrases like "I get what I want!" and "It wasn't my fault!"

Wanders, I think Nola's hemline is going up as quickly as Colleen Colleague's hairlength is coming down. So much action, from panel to panel!

And I'm so glad to see that Victor's stroke symptoms have cleared up from Thursday. Although now I'm concerned how much he's wishing he looked as good as Nola. Maybe Colleen could remind him that he's actually of a different gender...

  7. Miss Scarlet, you beat me to the punch!(line). The wistful expression in panel 3 is especially Amy-esque.

  8. I know it's still early in the year, but I'm going to go out on a limb and nominate panel 2 for a Worthy Award.

It's all very subtle, but the combined effect is impressive. Check out Victor von Underling's huge finger, the weird black stripe down the side of Colleen's head and the strange tilt of her body, the oddly looming ceiling tiles...also the awkward "to too" in Victor's word bubble. There's a lot going on in that hallway.

  9. Ummm, how many more days is it going to take Nola and the Prez to walk down that hallway and get through that door?? Surely they've all missed their lunch hour.

  10. OMG!Victor's hand has 6 fingers in panel 2. YIKES!

  11. Why is Colleen leaning toward Victor so much in the second panel?

I'm wondering if Karen Moy made a decision to "forget" the old regular characters. Adrian, Scott, Drew - other than holiday cameos, they've disappeared. Even ol' Doc Jeff hasn't been seen in a loooonnnggg time.

  12. Nola "do-you-think-my-boyfriend-is cheating-on-me?" Wolvensen is QUITE the little vixen, isn't she!? Mary needs to do some volunteer work here at Corporation, so she can keep up to speed on this fast-moving chick!
And poor bespectacled Colleen...she KNOWS she's never going to be in the same league as Nola. Perhaps Smithers was more her type, but we all know what happened to him...

  13. @ Anonymous 2:21 PM - I KNEW there was something creepy about Victor's hand, but I "just couldn't put my finger on it." I think he might have a shot at Nola, since she revealed on 2/15 that she has six fingers on her right hand.

  14. Apparently, Moy and Giella's view of what executives do is to walk around carrying folders, looking Very Important, and saying to themselves, "I am a vice president." It couldn't be any more bizarre if she were thinking, "I have moved my left foot. I must now move my right foot."
The more casually dressed peons can only stare in wonder and jealousy, changing hairstyles by the minute as they try to morph into standard office types.

The idea that any real work of any kind could happen in this setting is inconceivable.

Mary, meanwhile, is selecting an appropriate dress from her carefully preserved closet of identical 1930's housedresses. Yes, I think Nola will like the yellow one best.

  15. Miss Scarlett and jp, that is TOTALLY Amy Farrah Fowler! Thank you for confirming that I'm not losing my mind.
