Mary Worth 1,247

What a delightful treat today. We get a repeat of the best line of the past seven days, plus a return visit of the Belgian waffle from last Friday. I really appreciate that Mary Worth repeats its content so consistently in case anyone may have missed an earlier strip. Because most people have.

    Where in the heck did that wall come from? A panel earlier, nice open space to Mary's right. Now a wall is rapidly closing in on our heroine, not unlike what Batman used to face in his mid-60's weekly TV show. If Mary isn't careful....KERSPLATT!!!

    It's a giant apple pie which is obviously a subtle reference to Mary Worth's humble origins from way back when the strip was called "Apple Mary".

    Eh, it looks like we'll only get Mary's reference to being shunned and scorned, not a dramatic flashback to her downtrodden past. I was so looking forward to Mary's classmates (in the first decade of the 20th century) laughing at her. Thanks for nothing, Karen Moy.

    Since Mary and Nola still haven't been served, maybe they'll grab that waffle and start chewing.

    Maybe Wanders will have us choose our favorite non-human character. It will be hard to choose between Belgian Waffle, Hospital Hi Fi and Mr. & Mrs. B!BJ?'s shadow...

    Maybe Wanders can offer a "Best name for a Santa Royale Business" category as well.

    I keep thinking about my old Colorform toys and wondering if that's how Mary is "drawn" these days. It would explain all the repeats and floating hands.

    Einstein could have done some great theories about time by reading this strip.Time doesn't actually stand still in Mary's Universe,but there's no question that it slows and speeds up.Is Mary's universe moving at different speeds,causing the reader to experience time differently?

    I guess I can accept this as a shortened version of "Let me tell you a story..." However, I still feel cheated out of a three-week-long flashback showing a Young Mary Worth as she cavorted with the dinosaurs.

    This whole Attack Of The Belgian Waffle reminds me of that episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus where people were being attacked by blancmanges.

    I have to admit I spent an inordinate amount of time yesterday trying to figure out where the panel with the "Luna's" reestaurant logo appeared. I could not find it in any of the strips I have seen since Mary and Nola's lunch began on February 27. I'm thinking I am missing out on some important panels of MW somehow. It's hard to comment when I don't have all the (highly entertaining)scenes. . .

    Louise, my local newspaper omits the first two Sunday panels. Imagine butchering "Mary Worth" just to save space! I've learned to always check online on Sundays.

    I love the idea of Belgian Waffle as special guest character of the year. Or we could just call it "Eggo" for short. Kind of fits in with Aldo.

    Time doesn't just slow down in the Worthiverse. It comes to a dead stop, reverses, and then kills itself.

    I can testify that some papers, including mine, cuts off the first two panels. If I hadn't checked online, I would totally have missed Mary passing out salmon squares at the Charterstone pool party -- a classic moment if there ever was one!

    I can't believe that I am the only one who noticed that Nola is a man! After all, on Sunday, MW admonished her/him, "You stole another man's job!" Nola did not dispute this. I rest my case.

    After looking at today's display panel, it seems to me that Mary has reached Nirvana: relaxed eyes and eybrows express simplicity of thought; symmetrically out-stretched hands; she could very well be in Lotus position behind that table.

    Did anyone notice they were briefly sitting outside on Sunday?

    I just tried to sketch out the layout of MrJs/Luna and it melted my brain. It amazes me that the audience's point of view stays the same while the back ground shifts and spins.

    Thanks for posting the link to the website that explains the mystery of throw-away Sunday panels, Thorpnotized. However, I was barely able to finish it once I tripped on the phrase, "...comic strips that focus on action or drama, such as Mary Worth..." I'm still laughing every time I think of all the "action" in Mary Worth.

    I think I'm a robot after all. This is my 8th try on the verification words!
