Mary Worth 1,293

Today's (real) Full Strip

  1. How did they get all the guests to exclaim "Gasp!" in unison?

    LOVE today's real strip, Wanders.

  2. Your wedding is today and THAT'S your wedding hairdo? As Jill Black would comment "HAHAHAHAHA". (Add or subtract a "HA" or two for an exact quote.) Hey, didn't they use the surprise wedding at a party plot device last year on "Parks and Recreation". I watch way too much TV, don't I?

  4. i'm sure its going 2 be beautiful wedding! i'm so happy for gina. i know a lady in bonfield that could help her with her make up

  5. The unison gasping is obviously a flash mob in action. Wander's version is a story I would read every day, not like some redundant, slow moving, platitude spouting....oh wait.

  6. "Go, Bobby!"?!? LOL

I think the surprise wedding on the spot indicates that Moy suddenly realized she was tired of these characters and wants to get Mary back to Santa Royale as quickly as possible.

Jobless Nola has probably moved into Mary's apartment with her hobo guru. Together, they have their fingers in every meddling pie. Mary can't let that happen.

  7. I predicted this a couple of weeks (or ten years ago) when Mary set off to the east coast. I might have been the only one to do so. I'd like an award, please!

  8. Do we want to know what happened to the lady in pink in the first (real) panel? It looks like she leaned too low over the punch bowl.

  9. Mary doesn't appear to be uttering "Gasp!"

Mary looks like she's playing a strange form of patty-cake in panel 1...who invited Toby? she appears in panel 2.

  10. Let me hazard a wild guess - Mary is the Matron of Honor and she's going to make an epic platitudinous toast at the reception. Can't. wait.

  11. I am disappointed that Bobby hasn't decided to come out yet, and feel bad that Gina's marriage will fall apart when the inevitable happens, even though it will be a step forward to have a gay public soccer figure.

Meanwhile, I love the guy who shouts "Yay!" from the back of the crowd in panel one. Hilarious!

  12. Well aren't we all gobsmacked at THIS turn of events!? Gasp, who knew!

@Birdie -- Oh my, I noticed that lady's pink dress, too!! How embarrassing for her. I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say she's a nursing mother who has been at the party just a leeetle tooo long! (She prolly gave out the loudest gasp of them all!!) It was nice of her husband to stay home and watch the baby for her and all...

  13. Well done Wanders!

I am though disappointed that, after all the hints and foreshadowing, that Bobby Black wasn't announcing a sizable donation to the Cory's Peace Village health program. All the signs pointed there. Maybe Moy and Giella need to be more blunt.

  14. Let's see them get married on skateboards!

  15. Has anybody seen this Q&A with Karen Moy the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette did?:

  16. @fauxprof - I really believe Madame Moy reads this blog and knows how disappointed we'd be if we couldn't complain about the ponytail. She writes Mary Worth to please us, I tell you!

Or maybe I suffer from delusions of grandeur. That's possible too.

  17. Mrvy is absolutely right! If the writing and artwork improved, we'd have nothing to grouse about. Long live Giella and Moy, and especially the founder of the feast, Wanders the great!

  18. All that trouble for this "Big announcement" and they could only manage to bring four people.

  19. What is with the STUPID ponytail on Gina?? In EVERY SCENE! Is she 8 years old? Do the writers think readers wouldn't recognize her without that stupid thing on top of her head! Oh, geez, let her grow up.

  20. I've come to the same conclusion as Anon @4:07. Moy and Giella are afraid that nobody would recognize even an established character if his/her hair style suddenly changed (although color has morphed from orange to black and/or back again in the past. $%@^$% coloring monkeys!). Hence, we're stuck with the pump handle style of Gina's ponytail.

  21. Oh, if only Jill had really shown up, it would have made the whole story! Still, has it ever been explained how Gina will stay safe, now that she's out of the Witness Protection Program, and living the very public high life with Bobby? Perhaps a hit man will show up at the wedding, only to be talked out of his mission by Mary, with one of her long, drawn out stories?

  23. What a fashion contrast! The Lloyd Neck gentlemen are wearing dignified black or gray suits- the yobs at the Santa Royale wedding have on orange, I tell you, orange suits.

GASP-er number 1 is even wearing a very formal frock coat and striped pants such as the toffs wear to Royal Ascot.

In fairness to the Santa Royale crowd, however, at least they didn't YAY or GASP or fist pump.

  24. From the Q&A linked to earlier today by Antionette:

"my stories only last 3-5 months" - Karen Moy

    and then see:

"Jeff, I'm going to New York!" - Mary Worth, April 23

    Just sayin'.

Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
