Mary Worth 1,347

Now I'm really getting worried that this story is indeed going to be based on the Costa Concordia regardless of how poorly tasting that would be. Mary's ominous statement about testing, and, if my absolutely awful skill with languages is anywhere remotely close, I'm thinking that ship is named "One with the Sea," as in "We are Going to Sink!"

On the up side, it's 7-Eleven Day! Everyone get your free Slurpee!

  1. I live in Winnipeg. Every day is Slurpee Day, but especially days when the forecast high is 37C/99F. Why doesn't Wilbur take me to Italy?

My spam word is "presigna". Is that Italian for "foreshadowing"?

  2. And the bad taste award for too soon inappropriateness goes to...Karen Moy! I spent a few minutes online with an English to Italian translator, and with a thesaurus just to make sure. "Unita" translates directly to "Unity", and one of the synonyms for "Unity" is--wait for it--"Concord". So, Wilbur and Dawn are about to board the Unity of the Seas, and I don't think it's gonna be the Love Boat.

  3. This plot, or "plot," is becoming a head first dive into the twin pools of mediocrity, boredom... three, three pools of mediocrity, boredom and bad taste.

  4. "She's beautiful! Isn't she, Dawn?"
    "Sigh...it reminds me of Dave."

  5. Holy smokes, a Costa Concordia plot line would be as tasteless as Mary's disgusting lip service on the 9/11 anniversary.

Wilbur traded a polo shirt for a headache-inducing Hawaiian shirt. A print designed by Toby Cameron, perhaps? Note the matching father-and-daughter shoulder bags.

  6. "I got a bad feeling about this, Lucy..."

  7. Quaker John, thanks for making me laugh out loud. It's the first time this story line has made me laugh. I'm so down in the dumps about it I was about to write to Ask Wendy. Though I now know that won't cheer me up one whit.

  8. I can usually guess these plots long in advance, and if Moy is going to use the Costa Concordia as a template for this plot, it is indeed in bad taste.

However, IF the sailing goes well and no one ends up in the drink, then I'll be convinced that Costa has given Moy a free cruise in order to get a little free publicity or "brain wash" for her readers. You know, "those Italian cruises aren't so bad, Wilbur and Dawn had a great time. And the ship didn't sink!"

  9. Wow, what time did Wilbur and Dawn get to the cruise port? The ships usually dock really early in the morning, and the new passengers aren't allowed to board for 6-8 hours. So it must be about 5 a.m.

Didn't realize Italy was so far north, that they have full sunshine at 5 a.m. in July.

Also, the ol' Unite is going kinda fast (check out the bow wave!) for being so close to the dock.

  10. Maybe the ship will be boarded by pirates.

  11. OK -- I'm now hoping that not only will Moy be tastelessly rehashing the Costa Concordia disaster, but that she will liberally borrow from the plot of "The Poseidon Adventure."

  12. Perhaps everyone is getting too morbid. "One with the sea" or "Unity with the sea" could foreshadow a wedding on board this cruise!

Maybe Dawn will meet the Man Of Her Dreams on this cruise. Maybe WilburWendy has pre-arranged a Dave appearance and it's a Love Boat setup! Maybe the weather starts getting rough, the cruise ship gets tossed, and if not for the courage of the fearless Wilbur, the cruise ship would be lost*...and Dawn realizes that life can be brutal but you can come out the other side!

Wow. Maybe I need to switch to Judge Parker.

  13. Imagine the cliff hanger as the ship capsizes, threatening the very survival of Dawn and Wilbur. That will be good for at least two weeks to a month. I can't wait for Dawn to liken the breakup of the ship to her and Dave's breakup.

  14. @Anonymous 10:42 AM: "The Poseidon Adventure"...perhaps. But I'm hoping the cruise ship has an explosion in the engine room, as in the 1960 movie "The Last Voyage", that leaves Dawn pinned in the wreckage, unable to escape the sinking ship. Only in the Worthiverse version, Wilbur is unable to save her in time. Video from "The Last Voyage" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fu8-D_YlUQc

Dawn is unable to tell if the cruise ship is beautiful or not. She's been temporarily blinded by Wilbur's gawdawful "I'm-a-tourist" shirt.

  15. 1)Ship sinks and only two Ugly American passengers are reported missing and assumed dead.

    2) While standing on the rail around the bow of the ship and dreaming she is on the RMS Titanic with Dave she falls overboard. She is not missed until several days later when the boat docks on the Costa del Sol in Spain.

  16. Just wondering - why is Wilbur wearing not one but *two* purses?

  17. As the ship goes down, Dawn's instinct to live kicks in and she becomes a heroine, saving Wilbur and several others. She emerges revitalized, cheerful, and energetic, saying "Life is beautiful!"

  18. Does anyone have an idea how much these jobs pay? Can Moy really be making a living doing this?

  19. Wilbur: Promise me you'll survive. That you won't give up, no matter what happens, no matter how hopeless. Promise me now, Dawn, and never let go of that promise.

    Dawn: I promise.

    Wilbur: Never let go.

    Dawn: Life is brutal.
