I hope there is room enough on that helicopter for an extra 4,000 passengers. If the dude slipped and accidentally dropped Dawn into shark-infested waters, that would be OK.
Wait, Dawn, you forgot something. "A simple vacation with my father...that I didn't want to take, so that I could stay home and pout about life's brutality." Well, at least there are some hunky rescuers that probably remind you of Dave...
Dawn's windblown skirt in the first panel reminds me of someone else (and I don't mean Dave): http://www.arts-stew.com/marilyn-monroe/marilyns-iconic-photo-from-the-seven-year-itch/
Holy Crap! If a grand tour of Italy is a "simple vacation" for this chick, I am glad for Dave (the Human Reminder) that he had the sense to hook up with another woman and get the heck out of that relationship when he did.
This is a rather abrupt wrap-up of a storyline for MW. I'd lay pretty heavy bets on being back at Charterstone by tomorrow, feeding the condo's whale mascots and having a coffee klatch with Herself, along with a big ol' dose of Platitudinal Wisdom.
Incredibly fast transition to the rescue. Has Wilbur already been hauled up, or is he still down below trying to keep the Keno brothers from gazing up Dawn's skirt?
I'm not not saying that you need a background in engineering in order to illustrate a comic. I am suggesting, however, that Uncle Joe at the very least, "google image" a few things once in a while. Just to know what they really look like before drawing them. Look at the rescue cable. A simple open hook that you slip a ring over. Rescue harness? More like rescue velcro. The helicopter itself looks as though it was assembled from used lawn mower parts. Sheesh!
Such a delicate rescue, particularly that second panel where Dawn's dress is billowing gently in the rotor breeze, not a hair out of place, balanced on the rescuer's shoes like a little girl dancing with daddy, no need even for a strap or rope or bungie cord to secure her. Lovely. I'm sure it was just like that in the Costa Concordia heli rescues.
I'm with Nance, they will probably travel by the same time warp or wormhole that Mary took back from Gina's wedding, and be back at Charterstone tomorrow.
The alternative is that, having left his cash and credit cards in the stateroom safe, Wilbur will be forced to sell his one-of-a-kind astroturf sport jacket in order to buy cut-rate airline tickets to New York, after which they will have to hitchhike home. Unless Giorgio provides a loan, since this whole cruise fiasco was his dumb idea in the first place.
All I have to say regarding today's panel is, "I see London, I see France, ..." You know the rest.
Like a few others on this blog, I am really upset with how blatantly (and cheesily) this story is copied from a real life tragedy. And besides being in SUCH poor taste, isn't this some form of plagiarism? As we've seen, some of the "dialogue" is ripped off practically verbatim from the magazine article other have been quoting.
I'm wondering if Ms. Moy is working on a new story now where Mary and Jeff decide to go to a movie, only to be caught in the crossfire of a crazed shooter? I wouldn't put it past her! But you know, there's probably a lesson in there for all of us.
I fear we are being set up, yet again, for some sappy little ending like, "Oh, those two guys helped and were nice. So I guess life is wonderful after all."
And that would be it--On to the next PSA, leaving behind another "ship-load" of loose ends.
PS: You're not going to believe this, but my WV: WeBoord
Dawn and Wilbur no longer have passports. Looks like the joke is on Giorgio - they're going to be staying at his place indefinitely and life will be brutal once again.
Shmoopie - we're on the same wavelength. See my comment on Sunday afternoon. I can't even bring myself to try to make amusing comments about this story. I just want it to be over. I guess cruises, as well as love, aren't for Dawn. Unless she falls for Khaki McRescuer...
Is this the way they do rescues nowadays with no harness? Or did Dawn tell them not to rumple her dress? She's never looked better...sea disasters certainly agree with her.
I thought the same thing about Dawn's missing rescue harness. If you look closely, you'll see that the "color technicians" missed the subtle "strap around Dawn's back".
I'll stick up for Uncle Joe when warranted.
Don't look for this panel to show up in the Louvre in our lifetime, though.
Aug 15th PD comment in Letters is sooo correct..Mary Worth needs to be original and less horrific...make up your own stories instead of this type of tragedy!!
Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.

ReplyDeleteThink those paratroopers noticed Dawn's gams?

I love the way Dawn's pumps stay on her feet. She must have taken the time to superglue them....

ReplyDeleteI never thought it was so easy to be rescued by helicopter...you just stand on the paratroopers toes with a strap under your arms and up you go.
ReplyDeletePsst! Buddy!
ReplyDeleteI got $20 right here...
Push!
News Alert: 4000 perish in Unita del Mare disaster. 4 saved in heroic rescue.
ReplyDeleteIt's a helluva day at sea, Sir.

ReplyDeleteOh for heaven's sake... there she goes again. Poor me. WAA, WAA...My life is a nightmare no matter where I turn.
ReplyDeleteIf she was insufferable before, what will everyone be in for NOW?!? Think of how much she will be able to milk this adventure for soliciting pity!
