Mary Worth 1,409

"... And... and... whenever I cry, my arm grows back!"

Today's Full Strip

  1. Re yesterday's strip: YAY, a hospital scene!! Crazy arrows EVERYWHERE, and the shallow promise of a return of Hospital Hifi.

  2. I find it helps to concentrate on the strangely morphing food. Dawn's rice pudding is back, and her milk carton appears to be unopened, even though she was gnawing on it a few days in a futile attempt to gain entry.

This fixation on the food prevents me from thinking (shudder) about Jim's morphing arm. At one point, the pinned-up sleeve seemed to contain a definite elbow, while today, as Wanders points out, the entire arm appears to have reappeared, albeit in a sinister, shadowy form.

  3. Dawn and Jim--two ships that pass/crash in the night/cafeteria.

    Sigh.

Jim: Do you remember the terrible accident that changed my life, forever leaving me mangled and disfigured, a broken man?

Dawn: (yawns) Not really. I happened to see it as I flipped past it on the news before Game of Thrones came on, and then I went on a boring vacation to Italy. There was a huge incident that happened to me there, though. I was on a ship, and it started to sink, and--

    Jim:--gotta go to Therapy. Bye.

  4. Not only does Jim live in a magical universe where his arm can regrow - if you click on the link for the full strip, it leads to a different one, without the panel shown here. Wow, how does Moy manage to be in two places at once??

  5. Oh! They fixed the link to today's strip! So easy, I'm sure that Dawn is considering the same solution for Jim. After all, have problems have been fixed, and they were MAJOR!

  6. Thanks a lot, Wanders, you almost made me laugh out loud in the middle of a phone meeting with the arm joke! That would've gone over big. :-)

The mood swings are almost more daunting than the morphing arm, though. Isn't this the second time this guy has gone from grinning to devastated in nothing flat?

  7. SPOILER ALERT... Mary runs a black market organ / limb resale business. This explains the recruitment of Dawn (although filleting and selling her off does seem appealing) as well as all of the "volunteer" work. Jim was a victim of Mary's magazine cart... equipped with saw blades.

  8. I'm really annoyed that Dawn interrupted him. I think he was going to say what else he lost in that accident. Or maybe he was going to tell her how he lost the arm in the process of rescuing a little girl after the accident.

Moy does seem to have some kind of boating phobia, doesn't she?

  9. I enjoy Wanders' secret messages. But Uncle Joe's secret messages border on genius.

  10. For those of you who don't want to sit through the "brief message", the Athens Banner-Herald online news carries Mary Worth, and they have "Zoom" to view a larger image of the strip. Here's the link:

I enjoyed Punky's recap of the sandwich situation yesterday, but no one mentioned that Dawn's tray went missing. And today, her sandwich is gone and she's back to eating from her plate, while Jim's sandwich has changed from bread to bun. Will Dawn ever get around to drinking her milk?

  11. My question, since Moy seems to write the strip by stealing in-the-news stories, was there a "Totts Island Ferry" crash lately?

  12. There was a Tanzania ferry accident in July. Tanzania...Totts...close enough!!

  13. A couple of MONTHS ago? I thought that Dawn was going to jump right into volunteering.

Boy, time is sure warped in the Worthiverse. Well, a lot of things are warped in the Worthiverse.

  14. I would like to point out that katyb predicted the reappearance of the arm in the comments section for yesterday's strip.

    Way to go, katyb!

  15. What is that white patch on Dawn's jacket? It kinda looks like a smiley face, but I suppose it's an ID badge - ? "Hi, I'm Dawn! Is your life brutal? I used to think mine was, but my father dragged me to Italy and [blah blah blah ad nauseum]."

  16. The injury doesn't appear to have harmed Jim's appetite. He's even polished off the knife and plate that were on his tray a few days ago (or to use Worthiverse time, 2 months ago).

  17. I was hoping Dawn (not listening closely because she wants to jump in with her own story) would absentmindedly say, "Oh sorry, Jim, I hope you find it...it sux when you lose something"

  18. What will Wilbur have to do when Jim dumps Dawn?
