Mary Worth 1,419

Dawn's sort of a one-inspiring-guy-at-a-time kind of girl, so I think Mary's hypnotic efforts to remind Dawn that she's committed to two shifts a week for college credit seems like a lost cause.

  1. After experimentation at the breakfast table this morning, I found that you can hold a plate and fork as Dawn is doing in panel one, but it's an awkward proposition at best. I see she has secured the plate with her thumb in panel two. However, the important question is--what kind of stark white pie IS that? Marshmallow? Tofu? Solid Crisco?

Hopefully, this is a recipe that exists only in the Worthiverse.

  3. Panel One:

Never before in the History Of The World have I seen two people have so much trouble with a piece of pie.

@fauxprof--Right? Even the crust is white. Casper's Vanilla Tofu Marshmallow Surprise Pie? Urk.

  4. Poor Jim; for all the time he must've spent in the hospital, he apparently managed to elude Mary, only to get cornered by Dawn.

  5. "My new friend Jim lost an arm in the Totts Island Ferry accident. I ALMOST lost my father on a sinking ship. So, Jim and I are perfect for each other!" I'M hoping that Jim is a compulsive liar who really lost his arm when he fell off a beer truck.

@fauxprof, the forks look more like spoons, and the "pie" looks like blocks of cream cheese at best and lard at worst. And, who grasps an eating utensil at the very end of the handle?

Wilbur will be furious when he finds out that he missed Mary's "pie."

The white pie could be this one minus the nuts . . .

  9. @KitKat, I like the idea of the pie being sculpted from blocks of cream cheese. That sure beats another thought I had--mayonnaise pie with mashed potato crust.

For some reason I don't feel so well after typing that.

  10. I'm not sure what kind of spell Mary is conjuring in the second panel, but I'm feeling very sleepy.

Also very hungry for a heaping plate of lard squares.

  11. lol at the hidden message today.

"Life is brutal for Jim too. For example, if he were here with us, he would need to rest this pie on his lap ... or on a table... while eating it."

No amount of physical therapy is going to fix that. But he wouldn't want our pity.

  12. Urknth! The inside of the pie looks even worse than I imagined.

Mary lost her pie when she pushed it off her plate - it's already slid onto her hand in the first panel. So she's going after Dawn's in the second panel.

  13. That was a good hidden message, I laughed and such.

  14. Why did we get no such follow-up with Nola when she determinedly embarked on her new life of virtue? And how the heck is Smithers doing? Is Gina pregnant yet? Emily Smith from Goleta- what's she up to these days? The lady in the sling that Mary brought a kelk casserole to... Honestly, this Dawnfest has made me nostalgic for past story lines.
