I know there's a joke in here somewhere, but I just can't seem to come up with it.
In the meantime, here's a commercial about two friends enjoying coffee together. This commercial reminds me of Jim and Dawn because the man only has one arm. And clearly they're just friends.
Thanks for the blast from the past, Wanders! I never noticed back in the sixties how sinister that announcer sounded, let alone the evil look in the woman's eyes. What's IN that coffee?
ReplyDeleteAnd, to quote KitKat from yesterday, what's in that pie? I swear, Dawn is bulking up before our eyes. Is Ghost Pie something out of a Stephen King story,or a Twilight Zone episode?
And here I thought this "story" could not possibly get more... more.
ReplyDeleteIf Dawn and Jim are new friends, and Mary thinks they can both benefit, does that make them... friends with benefits?
ReplyDeletePanel Two today was my favourite. I like to think it was a Thinly Veiled MW Zinger: "He may be an opportunity for you to give. It's good to venture out and try new things."
ReplyDeleteTranslation: "It's about time you got off your selfish butt to do something for someone else for a change."
RE: The Sanka commercial. DRINK IT. DRINK IT ALL DAY AND INTO THE NIGHT. YOU CAN'T TASTE THE CAFFEINE, BUT IT'S THERE. D R I N K I T A L L U P !
Wanders, thanks for the Sanka spot! I tried to visualize Don and Megan Draper giving each other come-hither looks over their cups, but I doubt the Drapers would opt for instant. Maybe we'll see Dawn and Jim giving come-hither looks over their cups of...Tang. (Is that stuff still on the market?)
ReplyDeleteSo, Mary has reduced Jim to "an opportunity" for Dawn. Talk about setting the bar low - sheesh.
I consider all of you on this blog my friends (out of pity though).
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't bother me to see Mary constantly drooling advice, if it weren't for the fact that the advice is uniformly bad.
ReplyDeleteAny rational woman with experience in the world would know that Dawn needs to become comfortable with herself before starting a new dating relationship. It's clear that this relationship is heading that way, so Mary should be cautioning Dawn to slow down.
But in the Worthiverse, no woman is complete without a man, even if all she uses him for is the opportunity to turn down marriage proposals. (Where is Doctor Jeff, anyway?)
This business of "helping Jim" is beyond bizarre. He obviously is a hundred times more stable than Dawn is.
Does Moy ever interact with real people?
Moy should take her own advice and try something new. How about a ghost writer and new editor?
ReplyDeleteGee thanks, anonymous! You're so kind. Do you want to come over to my house and play with my Matchbox cars?
ReplyDeleteRight on birdie. Mary's advice is bad and she clearly doesn't even listen AND her concept of friendship is flawed. Being someone's friend "to help him" is condescending and narcissistic. But Mary's fine with that either because Karen Moy is clueless and just spouts out words that she doesn't understand OR Mary really is a deeply flawed character who resents all of her "friends" because "she bakes all the pies, and she fixes everybody's problems and she provides stellar companionship, but when do they come to help Mary? When?" except that we never see that side so wooden caricature it is then.
I guess Mr./Mrs. Anonymous pities us because we keep coming back expecting something different.
Just a random thought: Doesn't the Totts Island Ferry sound like a ride at LegoLand?
ReplyDeleteEwwww..................................the sound of the spoon digging in to the jar.
ReplyDeleteDawn, hurry! Mary's hair is on fire! Pour the coffee on it right away!

ReplyDelete....and it's helping @ Anonymous. Thank you for being a friend.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me, or does it seem like Mary is trying to mentor young Dawn in the fine art of Meddling. I;'m not sure if that makes Dawn a Meddler-in-training, a medley,, or Mary the Mentee and Dawn the Mento, but you get the idea.
(wv: 'hatsbut', defined as 'butting in while wearing a hat')
I'd thank Anonymous, but he/she is probably away from his/her keyboard, out at a skydiving lesson, taking a Thai cooking class, or building a media cabinet in his/her basement.
ReplyDeleteI feel richer just knowing/being pitied by him/her!
@Nance - Actually I was out flying a kite with my dad. BTW I pity myself too. I think I'll watch GOT for a while on my couch.
ReplyDeleteThat commercial looks like a sick coffee drinking game. Where are the quarters?
ReplyDeleteI can't help imagining that's Dawn's right hand holding the coffee cup.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was her left hand. You may be right
