Dawn is mortified to discover that not only did Jim lose his left arm and his sister in the ferry accident, but he also lost his iPhone and is now forced to carry photographs in his (gasp!) wallet!
Dawn is radiating shock and alarm. Sure, she said that she was willing to do anything to help, but to actually look at a picture of the dead sister? Boy, that's a level of commitment and self-sacrifice she was NOT prepared for.
(Weren't the curtains in the cafeteria yellow last time? No wonder the cost of healthcare is going up, all this redecorating.)
@KitKat: funny visual on the left back pocket (my bus to hell leaves soon; extra seating available), but we all know that he keeps his wallet pinned in his left sleeve.
Dawn isn't shocked by the picture. When Jim said he wanted to share something, and reached into his pocket, she was expecting him to pull out a ring. I mean, how much time is a girl supposed to invest before she gets a proposal?
@Peggy Olsen- Oh yeah, Merry will look like Dawn's long lost twin- which also means that it will be impossible for Jim to have any romantic feelings towards her, so guess what- Dawn gets friend-zoned again
Poor girl couldn't get a man if she was handing out pardons in a prison. Oh well, at least the new fall season has started, and Dawn can catch up on all the other shows, until Game of Thrones starts up again in the spring.
@heydave - in my mind, Uncle Joe has a big sign on the wall by his drawing board that says "Jim is missing his LEFT arm," just so he doesn't draw the ultimate blooper.
@Punky- I think it would be hilarious, if every time we saw Jim he had the wrong part missing. Left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg, eye patch, bald, toothless, etc. Then at the end of the week, we could play ''Spot The Differences''!
Just had a stray thought--what if Jim's sister looks exactly like little Aiuto Annie, the blond waif Dawn and Wilbur could have saved, but didn't? Dawn could be consumed by regret and remorse...if she ever noticed the kid in the first place.
This is reallllly weird now if this is a romantic sub-plot. Even Dawn is feeling the unease - she's excusing herself to drink water while Mr. Right is tearfully forcing her to look at pictures of his sister.
Dawn is really not wanting to see this photo, just like @fauxprof said yesterday even though Jim seems ready to share. Wow. Helmet hair's narcissism knows no limits. I guess Moy believes we haven't gotten that subtle point yet.
In a unique plot twist, it turns out Merry was Jim's fraternal conjoined twin, both sharing an arm... the one he lost in the ferry accident. This explains his hesitance at showing Dawn the picture. Meanwhile, it looks like Dawn is getting kind of grabby in the second panel. She really wants to see that picture!
Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
"She's a man, baby!"
ReplyDelete("Dawn, that's my sister!")

The bet is on! I say that Sister Merry looked just like Dawn.
ReplyDeleteAny takers? Winner gets a pool pass at the next Charterstone pool party.
@fauxprof at 7:44 a.m., Mountview Hospital is trawling for new patients by making people sick - green drapes on orange walls? That makes me queasy.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that Merry looks like an adult Emily Smith of Goleta.
If Jim carried his wallet in his left back pocket, we'd be seeing some contortions today.

ReplyDeleteSHRIIEEEEKKKK... "Oh my GOD, she's HIDEOUS, Jim!"
ReplyDelete"Oh wait... she looks very familiar, arrested development, helmet-hair, rather old looking and poor fashion sense. Hmmmm...."
(Dave's comment made me almost spit out my coffee!)

ReplyDeleteThe look on Dawn's face suggests that she soiled herself.

When the heck did those little milk cartons turn into glasses?

ReplyDeleteAll I can think is Chinatown -
ReplyDelete"She's my sister!"
SLAP!
"She's my daughter!"
SLAP!!
"She's my sister!"
SLAP!!!
"She's my sister AND my daughter!"
[dying with joy and laughter at finding this marvelous blog, by the way - too fab!]

ReplyDeleteYesterday @heydave at 12:30 pm pointed out that the milk cartons had turned into glasses. Presto chango, today the cartons are back!
ReplyDeleteWill we have to wait until Sunday to get a gander at Merry? (Cue the cloying violin music.)

ReplyDeleteMilk Carton vs. Glass Recap (so far)
ReplyDeleteTuesday: Panel 1 - Dawn has a glass; Jim has a milk carton. Panel 2 - Dawn's glass appears.
Wednesday: Panel 1 - Dawn and Jim both have glasses; no sign of any milk cartons. Panel 2 - unable to determine carton/glass status.
Thursday: Panel 1 - Dawn's milk carton reappears so she can refill her glass. Panel 2 - the milk in Dawn's glass defies gravity.
Friday: Panel 1 - Dawn's glass has vanished from her hand. Panel 2 - Jim's glass is gone and his milk carton is back.
Mayhaps we're seeing foreshadowing: Dawn... becomes sister... becomes lover... grows arms... loses arms... so does Jim... who becomes Dave...
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, readers become sleepers... who wake up much later in the same plot... who envy the dead...
I'm just relieved that Jim reached into his BACK pocket.
ReplyDeleteSave me a seat on the bus, please, Dave in Parma.

Maybe Dawn is put off by the sudden appearance of Jim's chest hair.
