Mary Worth 1,508

It's almost cute to watch John Dill try to assert his authority over Mary Worth. Maybe if he sang her this song...

Today's Full Strip

  1. 'We're a team, remember I invited myself along?'

  2. This reminds me of the time Mary helped Marie Curie discover radium.

  3. There's no "I" in team, but there is a "me," and me say stop!

Actually, the really freaky part will be when John dill reveals his cake design is "Mary, the Wholesome Meddler."

  4. Having finally disposed of his harpy hausfrau Eleanor, John Dill struggles to assert his independence from an even more formidable foe, Meddling Mary Worth. And so, an epic battle begins....

  5. It's unbelievable! John Dill actually has the effrontery to think that he is in charge. Boy, has he got a lot to learn. (Actually, he has a lot to learn about cake competitions if he thinks the design on the table is a winner.)

  6. If Mary keeps being a relentless harpy and such an authoritarian martinet, there's going to be a special ingredient in that cake.

And Dr.Jeff will be dining alone at the Bum Boat.

  7. OK, so going and reading the whole strip tells me that John Dill is going to... make THAT as his entrance to the competition?

    Beat him, Mary. Strike now.

Make it look clean and helpful, of course, but beat him.

  8. Apparently, John suffered a stroke to his left side while waiting for Mary.

  10. Opps, apparently so did I, sorry for duplication.

  11. After Jeff and Mary have smugly congratulated themselves for being compelled to help others, Mary makes it clear to John Dill that she expects to be considered an equal part of the "team" making it clear that it is no longer John Dill's project alone. What a selfless humanitarian she is. If Moy has a talent, it is for making Mary look like a jerk. I wonder if that is her intent.

  12. Sometimes I wish this strip had an audio track so we could get the inflections of the dialogue. Mary's "I LIKE IT." comment seems to indicate she is less than excited about John's design. No exclamation point, no bolded words, even the word "like" doesn't show much enthusiasm. She is also quick to remind him that they are a team, which probably means she has some ideas of her own. Let the fireworks begin!

  13. Preview of tomorrow's strip:

With ninja-like quickness, Mary picks John Dill up by his shirt collar and jacks him up against the flimsy condo wall.

"Who sez you're the head of the team, Pickle Boy? I'm Mary Worth, and what I say goes! Capish??"

  14. Not much of a design there, Mr. Dill. It looks like a kid's drawing of a birthday cake. Couldn't you have mustered at least a unicorn or two? Sheesh. Those other contestants are going to mop the floor with you.

@meg, loved your Marie Curie comment.

  15. That design just screams "the beauty of nature."

  16. John Dill is a gargantuan SUCKER.

  17. @kathyo

The design represents a window with polka-dot curtains and valance through which we observe the Beauty of Nature!

It masterfully frames the view and asks the questions, "Is nature as beautiful when NOT viewed through a window? If not, why not?"

John Dill isn't just a baker, he's an artist!!

  18. John Dill is a visionary

  19. Uh huh, John. You just keep telling yourself that you're the head of the team...

Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
