Mary Worth 1,663

I've always been confused by the phrase "last Monday." Does she mean the Monday that occurred two days ago, or the Monday that occurred nine days ago? Either way, she's been at the Pax Wellness Resort and Spa far too long.

Which reminds me, I entirely forgot to celebrate Maude Findlay's totally AWESOME post last Friday. And I don't know what I mean by "last Friday."

Today's Full Strip

  1. Mary is sporting a dowager's hump, or her neck has elongated and she's thrusting her head oddly forward. Something's off, anyway. Her posture looks painful. Maybe all that desert hiking is not reaping such great health benefits after all...

  2. Mrvy beat me - I was just thinking how sad it was that Shannon's a pretend therapist and not a psuedo-gerontologist, because something needs to be done about Mary's osteoporosis, stat!

Could it be that some malign force in the Pax area is atually leaching the calcium out of Mary's once vigorous frame?

  3. All Seeing Mary saw that Aggie Avocado misinterpreted something. Mary knows this because Mary KNEW what was really meant. Fools! Cease and desist your efforts against Shannon forthwith!

  4. I am glad that Moy broke out of the narrow confines of giving so many of her characters the last name of "Black" by giving Shannon the surname "Brown."

Bad, bad Shannon Brown, the baddest sharing circle expediter in the whole damn town.

  5. A single bed, a desk, a lamp, linoleum floor - Mary is staying in a dorm room (except for the pink curtains).

Wouldn't Angry Avocado's complaints to management be considered confidential? And Shannon is blabbing away to Mary about it? All Mary's letter is going to accomplish is to get Shannon in deeper trouble. No skin off of Mary's nose I guess, let the games begin!

  6. R u ok, you are confusing the Worthiverse with the real world. Any attempt to do so will result in dizziness, confusion, and a strange floating sensation. If you persist, you will damage your mental health permanently.

  7. Shannon Brown? Must be a different Shannon Brown.

mrvy and Muscato's comments are well-considered. Yoga is deleterious for Mary, obv. She never looked this poorly before.

And say what you will about the lack of amenities at Pax. I never stayed anywhere that offered me an in-room labelmaker. Posh!

  8. I also wondered why Mary has a labelmaker in her room. Perhaps she is writing a rough draft of her supportive letter on paper, then she will do the final version on one longggggg label and slip it under the door of the administrator's office.

  9. More like nail it to the office door.

  10. Run on sentence alert! As a column writer, Mary should know better!

The reason Mary's neck looks like that is because she is both literally and figuratively sticking her neck out for Shannon.

  11. Turtle-Mary will make everything OK. It will take a while, but in the end, Shannon's job will be secure once more and Aggies anger problem will be resolved, and at least two more people will be eternally grateful to Ms. Worth. Mary just can't help helping people. That's how she rolls. Exciting times ahead!

  12. Please add "I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter" to the Chaterstone jukebox. I think it's very apropos.

  13. Mary's letter sounds like it was dictated by a child trying to sound like a grownup.

  14. Shannon Brown and Aggie--wait for it--Green?

Isn't it sad that one-armed Jim never got a last name?

  15. Today's strip is a PSA to remind us to drink our milk, eat yogurt...try to get plenty of calcium.

Don't you just know Mary is jonesin' to find out why Aggie Avacado is so messed up. The rest of her letter reads: "In closing I would like to say... I am a most excellent meddler and I would like to offer my services to help Aggie and Shannon resolve their issues. Sincerely, Mary Worth"

  16. It would be great if government Joe was writing a letter to the Pax admin too!

"Not only did Shannon run Aggie into the ground, but she ignored the rest of us and OUR problems. Our terrible, terrible problems. I have been gainfully employed in a boring desk job for 25 years and Shannon seemed to not really care about me and MY problems. There was however one old woman there who did care. She wanted to know EVERYTHING about each of us. I'm sure her sage advise would help me with my conundrum. "
