Mary Worth 1754

Ha ha ha ha! This is so awesome. First there was Aldo Kelrast (death), then Ron Amalfi (politics) and Frank Griffin (ice skating). John Dill even knew when to call it quits (cake school in NYC). But Jeff never gives up. If there was ever an opportunity for Mary to dump Jeff, now would be it: "Jeff, something's come up. I'm staying in New York. Now please don't call me anymore."

  1. So it comes down to the bright lights of New York or Santa Royale and the Bum Boat. Given that New York will soon be under water due to global warming, I'm sure Mary will choose Santa Royale. Besides, teasing Jeff has become her life's work.

  2. And by 'catch up' the good Doctor means 'have another marriage proposal declined.'. I think Dr. Jeff is feeling jealous that Mary is out spurning other men.

  3. Mary, get a restraining order. It's the surefire way to tell a guy that it's over...

  4. "So, Mary, what have you been doing with your time in New York, while Shelly has been working at Promise Haven?"

  5. "Properly catch up" means having dinner together at the Bum Boat, along with a heated discussion about the time Mary spent with Ken.

  6. Gee willickers, this is like a flashback to teenage Mary sitting on her bed with her Princess phone, talking to her beau. Of course when Mary was a teen, the Princess phone hadn't yet appeared. In fact, Alexander Graham Bell was still tinkering with his invention.

Notice K2's pricey scarf prominently in view in the foreground. My stars, what a dilemma,

I hope all of you are staying warm!

  8. Maybe it's just me, but I was very amused at Mary's line in Panel One:
    "How was Vietnam?"

I mean, did Dr. Jeff go there to give the country a checkup? Doesn't he go to a specific place IN Vietnam to do a specific thing? Or is he simply there to do Touristy Jaunts and Shopping?

Next time someone calls me after vacationing, I'm going to ask how the entire country was. Even if they go to Disney. "How was the United States?" I'll say, sitting on my bed, wearing a sweatsuit and smirking.

  9. "Properly catch up"?? Is that what the old folks are calling it these days? The dialogue is so awkward I can't help but imbue it with naughty subtext. It's not my fault, OK?
I think Mary's body language speaks volumes. Dr. Jeff, there will be no properly catching up for you!

  10. There's no way Mary will let Dr. Jeff off the hook in favor of K2. Simple fact: K2 still apparently has fans which means Mary might have competition of the female persuasion for his attention. Her "string 'em along" behavior probably won't fly with him for long. Dr. Jeff, on the other hand... well, he's too passive to ever give up on her. Plus, Mary can feel morally superior picking the man who is still supposedly doing good for society in his work while K2 lives off past glory (?).

  11. Maybe Mary will move to NYC and convince Jeff to move there too. That way she will always have one of the boys to escort her around when the other is busy (Jeff - performing surgeries or whatever he does, K2 - chasing trolls around Central Park).

  12. Why can't K2 move his has-been butt to Santa Royale? Just think what a big fish in a small pond he could be! No, he's going to end up with Dear Old Shelly Cohen and Mary will get all the matchmaking credit she can squeeze out of it. Matchmaker, matchmaker make me a match! Find me a find, catch me a catch!

  13. Good point: K2 could be the next big thing for washed up theatre on the dinner circuit in Santa Royale.

Which is still just a big town, with cheese.

  14. I can just picture Ksquared and Mary in the Santa Royale dinner theatre production of "Love Letters"!

  15. @Nance 1:39: I bet Dr. Jeff goes to Vietnam to visit the stand where a scarf can be had for only 211,000 Vietnamese Dong.
