Mary Worth 1775

You know, it makes perfect sense that Iris would welcome her son home from prison and announce "I've decided that you and I are going to move somewhere where we can both get a fresh start: Charterstone, where you got arrested for drug dealing, and where the man I dumped lives. It'll be swell."

  1. I wonder if Uncle Joe has actually seen a piece of luggage (other than his own) since 1975!

  2. Ah, that fine Santa Royale institution of higher learning, The University. Maybe Iris and Dawn can pledge the same sorority.

It's a hopeful sign that Iris's plants survived all those months of neglect. Maybe the milk in the fridge isn't sour!

  3. Ah, Tommy. Haggardly handsome, prison-pale, full of angst and self-pity....calling Dawn Weston! Your next doomed project is ready.

  4. If Beth Kinley/Harpman were smart, she'd divorce dull old Tom and run into young Tommy's waiting arms.

After all, he's got more and better hair and probably better munchies.

  5. Maybe matchmaker Mary can find a troubled waitress at Diner to date Tommy.

  6. What, are they in the lobby? Who's bedroom dresser is that? And who're in the photo?

    Interested people want to know.

  7. Good call, fauxprof! Someone refresh my memory- has Dawn ever actually met Tommy before? If not, I can see the ''He- llo!'' bubble coming sometime this week.

  8. Prison might not have been so tough Tommy-boy if you hadn't had the same hairdo as your mum.

  9. Tommy could get a busboy job at the Bum Boat, and sell crack in the men's room.

Yes! I can see it now. My twin sis will be caught cheating off of Iris at The University and then caught cheating on Tommy the Tweaker at the Fraternity Party.

  11. Wednesday

Looks like Mary was hovering in the stairwell with that single-serving turkey casserole. What an enticing change from the prison grub!

Before she left Charterstone to help Tommy "transition," Iris had her walls painted black so Tommy wouldn't be overcome by cheerful colors when he returned.

  12. At least she brought the casserole in a covered dish so we don't have to see the contents. My guess is brown, orange or greenish mush.

  13. ''Look Tommy! Mary Worth was kind enough to bring us a turkey casserole! Isn't that nice?''

''They always served turkey casserole on Wednesdays in prison. Sigh... Do we have any green Kool-Ade?''

  14. If the Mary Worth strip were Seinfeld, Mary would be Kramer- always barging in the door with something weird.

Or would she be "NEWMAN!" because no one is ever really glad to see her?

  15. Did Mary possess Iris in panel 2? Or at least take her face off and put it on hers?

Now we know how Mary has this meddlers intuition, she can inhabit bodies.

  16. Where is young Willem Dafoe? We haven't seen him since Tuesday.

  17. Thursday

The blackness in the second panel matches Iris's mood as she contemplates dinner with Mary, Wilbur, and Tommy: "Oh $#@&^!!"

I've been wondering where Tommy (who just start calling himself Tom) will find a job. Maybe at McDowell's Burgers, Salmon Fil-A, Kelk Bell, or some other place in the food court of Santa Royale Mall (right across from Marcy's).

  18. A dinner at Mary's!! Can we have lamb and asparagus, please? With a side of plain water?

  19. Mary's Lamb and asparagus are legendary, but let's not forget that wonderful vegetable terrine she served Nola Wolvenson. Looked more like terrain than terrine, if the terrain was a malarial swamp.

  20. THURSDAY

At first, I thought Mary was bringing Eleanor Dill over for a little outing/visit. No, just turkey casserole.

Now, Iris and Tommy have dinner for at least two nights since Mary has selflessly invited them over for lamb, asparagus, and Plain water, her Go To Guest Menu. I can't wait for Tommy's sincere apology/amends and Mary's smug and saintly acceptance, which will probably happen next Friday.

  21. Either Mary put arsenic in the turkey casserole to get rid of those two once and for all or she's making her point about not wanting Tommy around by giving Iris a casserole that serves only one.

  22. I recall Tommy acquired some mad mopping skills while in prison.
