Yes, the best way to deal with unresolved issues is to pretend them away! That always works out great because there is no chance that those very same issues will come up again.
Wilbur will find ways to sabbotage Tommy ever actually getting a job - that is the only reason Iris is bothering spending time with Wilbur. Once Tommy gets a job it's splitsville for Iris and Wilbur knows it. We may be in this storyline for a long while.
