Professional tip for the women in scrubs. When you hear a shocking rumor about a colleague, keep your exclamations (and exclamation marks) to yourself! Be more like Mary, and you won't find yourself keelhauled into a workplace discrimination suit.
What a contrast in Mary in these panels. In the first, she's blissfully getting the dirt on patients as she reads their medical records. (Mountview Hospital does not have electronic records, nor does HIPAA apply.) In the second, she's aged ten years (she's now 128 years old) and her stunned "!" projects gamma rays. I nominate panel two for Panel of the Year in the next Worthy Awards.
I guess we're supposed to think that Olive was right about Dr. Kapuht, but all I can think is how stupid KMoy is and how little research she does for this strip.
Patients are 'lost' everyday, even by 'good' doctors. It's just the practice of medicine. No experienced nurse would react that way to a death on the operating table. He/she would have seen it before and would also have learned some professional decorem.
Of course, I am jumping to conclusions. Perhaps the grey-haired nurse and her 30-something colleague are actually fresh out of nursing school!
Tuesday I would think that Dr. Kapuht's disappearing/reappearing mustache would have attracted some attention. Hair turning blue spontaneously should be an attention getter as well.
Tomorrow: In a press conference, the CEO of Mountview Hospital announces a new policy by which people you don't suspect will be suspects, and people you do suspect will not be suspects.
It’s really easy to make fun of KM when she leaves reality behind - and let’s face it, she does it all the time and we all love it. But I’m talking about things like what people wear in her little purple-colored world and what they eat and that a rehearsal dinner is not people rehearsing eating dinner and how her characters misappropriate sayings and contort their bodies into impossible shapes when they gesticulate or frolic or hold forks (OK, the last one is on Uncle Joe).
The current departure from reality, however, is just sick. She treats people dying in the OR with the same ignorance as Wilbur running out of mayo. Oh, yes, and “personal problems” always lead to drugs and death. The flippant remark “I’m glad it wasn’t me” by some gossipy nurse almost made me toss my kelk this morning. Would there ever be a situation where you wish it were you, young lady?
KM is either insane or one of the most insensitive people ever to walk the earth!
So what's next? Mary the eavesdropper goes running to the Taylors to give them a big "I TOLD YOU SO!" proving she was correct to lecture them on how perceptive Olive is? Cue the mega smirk of self-satisfaction!
Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
Wow, follow-up on a minor character! Could Moy's style be maturing?
ReplyDeleteYikes. Mary's ET impersonation is eerily accurate.

ReplyDeleteOlive's parents had better keep their mouths shut. If they had acted on Olive's premonition, that patient would still be alive.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if he was there for a minor torso cystectomy and, if so, how a doctor manages to kill a patient during a such an easy peasy operation.
Mary looks shocked that another woman at the hospital is sporting exactly the same hair-do as hers!
ReplyDeleteThe patient didn't die, they just can't find him. He is misplaced or misfiled, rather than "lost".
ReplyDeleteDrug-addled, Dr. K performed a torso-ectomy instead of a torso cystectomy.
ReplyDeleteDoctor Kapuht!!!! What a name! Now he lost a patient! I only hope to see more from Doctor Kapuht!
ReplyDeleteWhenever a patient dies on the operating table, it quite obviously is because of the Doctor's rumored personal problems.
ReplyDeleteThe nurse on the right is so shocked in panel 1, her sleeve disappeared in panel 2!

When did Mary grow the spiked mullet? Very becoming.
ReplyDeleteI can't help but wonder, what if Mary had spent a little more of July at the hospital and walked through the park with Dr. Kapuht?
ReplyDeleteA grittier story to be sure, but Lost Patient would be better off.

If I ever write a novel it shall be titled "An Unfortunate Victim of Errant Behavior".

Insane? I'm just glad it isn't me.
