Similarities abound: A labyrinth of unstationary hallways that intertwine randomly throughout the complex; mirrored floors; cotton candy fabrics; and an elevator that apparently opens up into the clear blue sky where residents are sent when management needs to shorten the waiting list.
Today's Full Strip
All buildings in Santa Royale are remarkably similar, due to a bizarre set of zoning laws and building codes. Also the only architectural firm in town is Escher and Giella, Inc.
ReplyDeleteWanders, your words today should be spoken by Rod Serling. We can call this Twilight Zone Episode #297, "Welcome to Somerset."
ReplyDelete"Convenient amenities for seniors" does not include security. Obviously, anyone can walk in and stroll the halls.
Just wait until Sunday's strip, where Felicia wins the pastry-eating contest.
I love this storyline. There's a bit of everything - Mary's meddling, car crashes, family dysfunction, and Ian's grandstanding.
ReplyDeleteIt still doesn't make sense, though, that no one has ever tried to dump Mary into the Somerset home. "All those convenient amenities for seniors."
Oh please, Hanna, don't give in. And by the way, if Mary likes Somerset so much, why doesn't SHE move there? How much younger than Hanna could she be anyway? After all, Hanna's hair's only gray, whereas Mary's turned snow white many years ago.
ReplyDeleteFrom the looks of things (Black walls, Chrome, etc) I think Mary has tricked Hanna into living on The Death Star!
ReplyDeleteWhy doesn't Mary set Dingdong up with Ken in NYC? She could walk and take the subway or cabs to get around. She wouldn't have to worry about babysitting her grandson or spending any time with her daughter. The residents of Charterstone would not be as stressed about driving in the parking lot at Food Store. And Mary could visit NYC again knowing that Ken wouldn't be stalking her there.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to think Mary recently discovered she owns a financial interest in Somerset from the way she's pushing this place on Hanna. That's also probably why she doesn't worry about the waiting list Felicia mentioned. Mary MAKES THINGS HAPPEN! In fact, she's probably has that nice Mr. Allora (sp?) already hard at work packing up Hanna's belongings for the waiting moving van right now.
ReplyDeleteWhile searching Amazon for a totally unrelated video (really!) I came across an exercise video for seniors using "easy dumbbells." So, we can have Dingdon dumbbells - yay! (We all know that there is no shortage of dumbbells in Santa Royale.)
ReplyDeleteIt's quite obvious that the only reason Mary is pushing Somerset on Dingdong is so that she doesn't have to be her errand girl.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone in Hanna's situation (a number that grows daily with retiring baby boomers)functioned as Hanna does here--talked into moving into Assisted Living by a neighbor without so much as a whisper about the cost so far--they would have to be fabulously wealthy. . . Hanna doesn't LOOK that well-off. Also, to be truly realistic, Somerset would have to have some earnest marketing person padding along with Mary and Hanna. Oh, maybe that's Mary's new job. . .
ReplyDeleteDingdon dumbbells! A new catchphrase to work into a sentence every day. Perhaps the Dingdon dumbbells are in cahoots with Kaphut!
ReplyDeleteThanks KitKat!
