All is right with the world. Hanna and Amy both have husbands, and Gordon has a new device to access the Internet. Perhaps Amy could help pack up some of Hanna's boxes. Sean and Mary sure have disappeared.
Is Moy conscious of the irony of Hanna's panel two comment? After all, Amy has known Dave almost as long as Hanna has known Sean. Oh, well, everything tied up with a nice shiny bow, and we never have to see creepy, age-ambiguous Gordy again. (Moy can't write convincing children, nor Joe draw them.)
Once again, KM's answer to a woman's problem is Finding Mr. Right. "Dave proposed! I'll never need a baby sitter again!"
What's with Hanna's haphazard packing? It looks like scads of framed pictures in too-small boxes, plus she still has framed photos all over the walls. And, what are the gray cylinders in the box labeled "Hous Hol"? "House-Hold Pipes"? Will she need those at Somerset?
I love how women are portrayed as Users in this comic strip.
Sean is merely a car and apartment. Dave is, ultimately, a stable babysitting service, whether it is he or Amy. Tom Harpman was an escape hatch. And Dr. Jeff is dinner and a drive when Mary is bored, with Wilbur providing her some distraction now and again with his "column."
KM rather likes the idea of Arranged Marriages, orchestrated unions for a convenient purpose.
I echo fauxprof's comments...mighty hypocritical there, Hanna. Can I remind you that your man only wanted you to bring your flute, which I thought was bizarre and a warning flag. But, did you listen to me?? No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While fauxprof wonders about the irony of Hanna's comment in panel two, I wonder if Moy intended her comment in panel one to be as funny as it is. But Amy is so happy the sarcasm just flies right over her head.
Given Hanna's instant endorsement of Amy's quickie marriage without even having met this Dave, it's no wonder that Amy's first marriage went awry. One of the (many) annoyances about this plot is its unsettling lack of probability in the real world. Maybe this plot would have been relevant in the 1950's, but in 2015 Dave has huge potential as an abuser, having moved so fast to marry, and Hanna has shucked any responsibility as a parent for giving some moderating advice to her clearly desperate daughter. Then there's the issue that if Hanna has anything to will to her daughter and grandson, that (possible)golddigger Sean will now get it. I realize this is a comic strip, but I shudder to think anyone (especially young women) reading this stuff could think that the behavior of these people makes sense. OK, I'm finished now...
Mary refuses to marry Dr. Jeff, or even to visit with him. Instead, she races around making sure that every other remotely eligible woman is married so that he has no other options but to pine away for her.
I'm sure there's a name for her cruelty-inspiring mental illness, somewhere in the literature. I just hope I never meet anyone like that.
I read that Downton Abbey will come to an end after next season because the writer, Julian Fellowes, won't have the time due to his next project. Maybe Karen Moy could take over for him?
Since Hanna is scrambling to vacate her Charterstone condo (30 days notice, whatevs)it makes sense that Amy, Dave, & Gordy can now move right in. Amy and Dave can canoodle at the pool while Gordy visits the flower fairies and becomes best friends with Mary.
WEDNESDAY Oh, here it comes. Amy will tell her mother she doesn't really love Dave but she HAS to marry him. She has no choice since Grandma has been such an unreliable babysitter. "It's all your fault, Ma!!"
Hmm. . .good point, Anonymous, about not worrying that young women might read Mary Worth. That IS a comfort. I also see that Hanna is maybe going to ask Amy some questions in a parent-like stance for a change. I can sleep more easily now.
Hanna's coy expression in the second panel indicates that she'll go along with whatever Amy says about Dave. Ho hum. Meanwhile, Gordy is trying to figure out how to start his Generic Handheld Device.
KM's constant rehashing of the "A man is always the answer to a woman's dilemma" makes me wonder if KM herself is longing for a Prince Charming. Bleah!
Gordy is not holding an internet access device. It is a weapon he has been secretly working on for months. He is about to end this story line in a most spectacular manner.
Oh, Anonymous at 1:29 PM, if only that were true. However, in today's (2/25) strip, the object Gordy's holding looks more like the steno pad I lost back in the 70's.
Boy, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it? Both women throw around the word "love" a lot, but Hanna's underlying motive is early admission to Somerset, while Amy's is a meal ticket who will enable her to quit her job. This storyline has gone on too long (since September, for cryin' out loud), and has become profoundly insulting to a lot of people. Rant over. Thank you.
Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.

Concerning birdie's comment at 4:26 PM, how about Schadenfreude Personality Disorder?
ReplyDeleteLouiseF.... I honestly don't think you have to worry about any young women reading this strip.... Just saying....

ReplyDeleteDave loves Gordy.
ReplyDeleteGordy loves Dave.
Amy loves Dave. (I'm sure we'll hear that tomorrow.)
Does Dave love Amy?
