I love when Karen Moy quotes Shakespeare. She always does it so appropriately. This quote from Macbeth's most famous soliloquy seems to describe my experience reading Mary Worth each day, although it is more specifically Macbeth's reply to learning of his wife's death. Is Toby doomed?
Of course, the final line of the speech is perhaps even more appropriate:
It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury
Signifying nothing.
Perfect last comment, Wanders!
ReplyDeleteI do wonder how many of those strange little animals Toby had been planning to churn out that evening for her show? She might have to send Ian out to buy more Sculpey molds.
Previous to this episode with Hilton Burkes (who was played by Peter Cushing today), I can't recall Toby ever bringing up sculpture. Last I remember, she was painting. Not that Toby couldn't be a multi-talented artist.
ReplyDeleteThese works of hers remind me of the plastic injection molded souvenirs made by the Mold-O-Rama machines located in tourist attractions. Here's a little story about those machines. Incidentally, I have a rhino figure from Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo. It's a prized possession, not as nice as Mary's swans, but impervious to drunken house-guest mayhem.
I can't believe Toby didn't say anything to Hilton, even now. Surely she could have come up with a bland "It was nice meeting you" or something along those lines. Poor Toby! She needs a margarita by the pool with Mary.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, Wanders. Idiot? I mean, we all get it but still, it's surprising to hear that coming from you. You seem like such a nice guy!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I keep expecting to see Toby's sculptures sprouting "hair" as in Chia Pets.
In my misspent youth I was a theatre major, and one of the prime superstitions was to never EVER quote "the Scottish Play". It was considered bad luck to even give it its proper title. I wonder if KM has called down doom on Hilton, Ian, or Toby's gallery show?
ReplyDeleteToby is being played today by Yvonne DeCarlo, on hiatus from "The Munsters." Little known fact, in that last panel, Yvonne had been botching it in rehearsal, repeatedly saying her line as "Good night indeed, Herman!" But she got it right on the live Sunday take! Whew!
ReplyDeletefauxprof, I think Moy is trying to sabotage Wanders's Footloose production. How devious.
