Tommy's right. There isn't much he can do about it. The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 only protects employees of companies with 50 or more employees within a 75 mile range. So unless Jerry has franchised or expanded his operations in the greater Santa Royale metro area (GSRMA), Tommy really can't file an unlawful discharge suit. Let's face it, Tommy only got this job when long-time customer Wilbur Weston cashed in on a chit to impress his on-again off-again Iris. But now, with Wilbur overseas writing survival stories, there's not really much he can do to force Jerry to keep Tommy on. Of course, with Wilbur out of town, Jerry is doomed to bankruptcy anyways, so it really doesn't matter.
Iris also will have other things to think about when she sees her credit-card statement and discovers that Tommy has run up bills at medical clinics and pharmacies all over Santa Royale. It's too bad Tommy didn't add shampoo, body wash, and combs to that tab while he was at it.
ReplyDeleteHow many more days until Iris runs boo-hooing to Mary? How many platitudes will it take for Mary to solve Tommy's problems?
Iris will now rehash her tried and true job search suggestions: Santaroyalemart, the post office, maybe mopping up at the Bum Boat. Tommy will respond, as always, with "That's not for me, Ma!" Running to Mary will come later, but not soon enough for me.
ReplyDeletePanel One today is priceless.
ReplyDeleteTommy:(on the subject of Jerry's) Yep. My work there is done.
Knowing KM, Tommy doesn't mean to be funny, but this is hilarious. It's like the Old Westerns, when the hero can now ride off into the sunset because the Damsel is no longer In Distress, the town is saved, and Others need His Help.
I'm still chuckling, especially in light of Jerry's most recent Urgent Request of Tommy.
Tommy's work there is done? I must have missed something. Did he go back to Jerry's and clean the "accident" off the floor?
ReplyDeleteTime for Mary to show up unannounced at Tommy's door with a steaming kelk casserole. Mary can push her way in as soon as the door is cracked open a bit and meddle Tommy off of drugs with a few platitudes and shallow advice - or maybe she locks him in his room with her and cures him cold turkey.
ReplyDeleteMa, you know I don't like to talk about my business but I'll tell you what's going on this one time.
ReplyDeleteI'm suffering from PTSD. It was the accident in Jerrys men's room. You've never seen anything like it. On the floors, on the walls, in the sink. It even got on the ceiling. I still can't get the smell off my hands and red shirt. Do you think washing them would help?
I've been having this recurring nightmare of falling asleep at Jerry's and waking up on the floor of the dirty men's room. My therapist Vic thinks that may have actually happened and is why I'm having these dreams.
Anonymous @ 11:13: You're making this sound like it is today's Beetle Bailey.
ReplyDeleteBesides, I have other things to think abou--oh no! Someone knocked over my Vicodin! The pills are going everywhere!

ReplyDeleteDid anyone read Mark Trail today? Mark's wife Cherry is gleefully saying "tee hee," and we all know what that means! ... wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
ReplyDeleteSo instead of floating heads, we now get a floating head shop?
