Wouldn't it be wonderful if simply by calling the magic number, all your problems went away? Sadly, Iris, it doesn't work like that. Trying to make all his problems go away, is how Tommy got into this mess in the first place. Calling the helpline will force him to face his problems, not avoid them. That being said, please remember that if he doesn't call the support number, it is his choice, and not something you can control... wait a minute. Am I taking this story seriously? I think I need to take a break and come back when I don't care so much.
Oh, but in this case, it does work like that, Wanders. That's Mary's toll free number. SAMHSA stands for: Suffering Addict? Mary's Helpful Sound Advice
ReplyDeleteExcellent insight by Anonymous at 10:41 AM! Mary has to diversify from her part-time role as "Wendy," especially if/when Wilbur returns and tries to wrestle the column back.
ReplyDeleteIris would be better off turning to Al-Anon rather than Mary, but I don't see that happening.
In a very special Mary Worth, Tommy Beedie wrestles with painkiller addiction, while his mother Iris tries to help.
ReplyDeleteIn today's installment, Iris loses her nose and the pharmacist reads Klingon! Stay tuned for tomorrow's powerful episode!
The characters on the pharmacist's computer look kind of like Hebrew. Tommy must have been buying a LOT of Vicodin if they had to go all the way to Israel to get a refill. Even farther if that's Klingon.
ReplyDeleteOne of the headlines in my local Sunday paper reads "Eight dead in Akron in overdose epidemic". No wonder we're all feeling more angry than snarky over KMs over-simplified handling of the topic. Fill in the the blank for Iris' comic strip cuss word this morning. I'm afraid mine isn't at all family friendly.
