Mary Worth 2409

Yesterday, Tommy was ready to take out somebody's left lung with Hebrews 11:1. Today, butterflies.

I'm so glad you're feeling better, Tommy. What are your plans for today? Maybe it's time to start thinking about getting a job?

  1. It's helping! The butterflies are swarming, the ants have left Tommy's chin and are back on the walls (along with two worms).. truly fall is in the air and all is right with the world.

  2. As Tommy becomes more dependent on Mommie Dearest, he is regressing in age. Today he's about sixteen. It's the old soap opera kid trick in reverse. You know, born in January, in preschool by fall, troubled adolescent at Easter, and in two years she's a doctor? Soon Tommy will be playing with action figures and watching cartoons.

  3. Note that Iris calls the Bible "the book I gave you." She's positioning herself to grab the credit for Tommy's apparent turnaround. After all, she selected the passages for Tommy to read. Some less capable, i.e., less fanatical, person (say Wilbur, or Tina Baby) would have either picked the wrong passages or totally flubbed this. Mommy saves the day! Maybe she's even spoiling for a smackdown with Mary.

  4. Withdrawal symptoms are obviously a thing in the past. A couple of passages from the "book" and all is right with the world. And silly me to think that addiction was difficult to overcome. Another Moy adventure in stupidity about to be neatly tied up with a bow.

  5. Do those butterflies look like flower fairies to anyone else?

Wow, Tommy has lost his masculinity. What a drag. No DAWN for you, Tommy boy!

  8. I appreciate the obvious symbolism of the butterflies but a rainbow would've been extra special. And a unicorn grazing on the lawn while flower fairies braided its mane. How fortunate the withdrawal symptoms haven't materialized while Tommy awaits treatment. Or did I somehow miss the millisecond of treatment in this saga?

  9. Seems like Iris could use her own social worker to direct her to Nar Anon. Quick, someone, find her a meeting and get her the heck out of this strip so Tommy can try handling his own problems.... http://www.nar-anon.org/

Oops! I guess I had it wrong ... Mommy's in love with Tommy! ... So clingy ... so needy ... so ... uh-oh! ... DAWN needs to come to Tommy's rescue!

  11. Thursday

The fact that this mother and son are chit-chatting in the bathroom discomfits me to no end.

  12. Could they just kiss already. Moy has done such a bad job in this story line on so many levels that a little Oedipal complex wouldn't surprise me. The look on Marys face as she tries to give advice on this one would be precious.

  13. FRIDAY

Tommy is coming along just fine, and Iris has had enough of this mothering business. After all, she can be reached by text. Can that be all for the Tweedlebeedies for the time being, say for about ten years? Because I really, really hate them, and hate is a word I don't like to use.

  14. Ah, the weekend's coming, and I smell a crisis coming for Tommy. Wilbur to the rescue? Mary in the wings?! What will happen next?! A girl can dream of a real plot, can't she?

  15. Tommy texts Iris

Tommy - Ma, The book you gave me isn't helping. I really need something to take the edge off.

    Iris - LMAO

Tommy - Do you even know what that means?

    Iris - TMI.

Tommy - Ma, I'm about to buy some black tar heroin and need your help. Please .

Iris - I'll see you after class. Love you honey.

  16. I feel like the flowers and butterflies are being used Sarcastically by JB.

That is the Only Thing keeping me In Audience at this point. And from throwing up.

  18. SATURDAY'S STRIP: I can't wait to see Panel 3 where Mary stands up from the toilet and adds her hands to Iris's and Tommy's.

  19. Will this be all wound up in tomorrow's Sunday Summary, or will we have to suffer through Mary's victory laps? Never mind, I fear the question answers itself. Sigh.

  20. @fauxprof at 9:17 a.m., either way we'll be suffering. Or KM may surprise us with another wacko possibility.

For some reason, today’s strip reminds me of Raymond and Eleanor Shaw. Will Iris give Tommy a big, wet smooch? In tomorrow’s strip—since they’re in the bathroom already anyway—will Iris help Tommy take a shower? ... Now, that's what I call "family friendly"! Overly family friendly! ... EWWWW! I just grossed myself out ... again! Why does that keep happening with this “plot”? ... I need a margarita with Toby Cameron to wash away the distaste!

@fauxprof and KitKat: I’m always up for a Mary Worth victory lap! Can’t wait to see it! But I think we might not be done here for a while yet ...

Mary's going to bludgeon Tommy with that loaf of bread until he tells her what meetings he goes to.

Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
