Age is just a number that indicates when you were born. People of divergent ages know that their world views and attitudes may be different based on how the culture changed between their births. Age is also a number that indicates potential remaining life span. Couples with 20 years between them need to prepare to see the older person succumb to the effects of age, and should plan to meet those healthcare needs. People who think age differences won't impact their relationships are either old, or write TOTALLY AWESOME COMIC STRIPS!!
2016 - 1932 (first appearance of Apple Mary) + 60 (minimum plausible age for Mary then) = 144.
ReplyDeleteAge is just a number.
Blood pressure and hemoglobin A1C are just numbers, too, ones Zak probably never thinks about, Iris probably should, and Mary has checked regularly.
ReplyDeleteAs Josh pointed out in the Comic Curmudgeon today, Mary seems to be OK with decades of age difference, but takes exception at revenge sex. I think Iris might be better off with a little attention from a young man (who isn't her son). Mary is usually against fun though, isn't she. It's so frivolous.
ReplyDeleteI married someone 7 years older...I thought the cultural gap was huge at the time. He had grown up in the age of disco, I of MTV. Fortunately, with a little tolerance and lying, we learned to appreciate, or at least not complain about, each other's music. He introduced me to "There but for the Grace of God Go I" and the disco version of "If You Could Read My Mind, Love." I did not have similar success with Haircut 100.
ReplyDelete"Backlash" against Wilbur, Mary? Do you mean retaliation, or maybe revenge? It's a moot point because Wilbur has met a cute 22-year-old woman who charmingly refers to him as "Sugar Daddy." After all, age is just a number.
ReplyDeleteI've started to cringe before I even read the strip each morning.
