"Dear Wendy, thanks for your recent advice, but I sent you my letter three weeks ago! While waiting for your response, the company offered the job to someone else! Thanks for being so slow to respond. If it weren't for you, I'd have to go to work today. But as it is, I have plenty of time to go on a cruise. It's a good thing that financial concerns aren't ever a consideration in the Worthiverse. Signed, Broke but Who Cares."
Why is Mary talking to Jeff tonight? I can't think of a single reason.
ReplyDeleteToday's Boldface Haiku is titled "Just Two Chicks And Some Celery Sticks".
Way ahead. Afford!
Super!
Tonight.
Arrangements! Cruised...?
I'm sure Mary isn't going to ask Jeff's permission to go. More like, "I'm taking off with Toby for a few weeks. I'll be in touch, depending on Wi-Fi availability. Take care of that knee, and give Adrian and whatsisname, you know, the cop, my very best. See ya!"
ReplyDeleteWhat's on the menu? Lemonade, fried okra and sting beans?
ReplyDeleteI believe it's either fried kelk or salmon squares. Salmon squares that have been turned into salmon circles with a canape cutter?

ReplyDelete"You've cruised before, haven't you?"
"Oh, my dear, sweet, naive Toby, you don't know the half of it."
S. McW.
Point well taken, Wanders. The Worthiverse is indeed a paradise free of any financial concerns.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't trust Toby to make dinner reservations let alone travel arrangements. She had her identity stolen when she tried to buy a DVD from a bootleg website.
Nance: She's going to talk to Jeff to find out whether she's ever been on a cruise before so that she can answer Toby's question. Unless I read the dialog bubbles in the wrong sequence. Then you're right. No reason at all.
ReplyDeleteCheck out Mary's left hand in Panel 1 - I think we may be seeing June's first attempt at drawing a multi-digit appendage!
ReplyDeleteGulp! "You've CRUISED before, haven't you?" What exactly does Toby have in mind?
ReplyDeleteAlso, shouldn't Mary be walking around the pool party, meddling ... er, mingling?
Mary sure has a lot of fingers...
ReplyDeleteOoooh! Judging by Mary's hand in panel one, this could be the beginning of June's foray into the H.P. Lovecraftian universe in an effort to attract new and younger viewers to the strip. Mary will slowly transform into Cthulhu!
ReplyDeleteFRIDAY
ReplyDelete"I like how people with different interests can travel together and still have fun!" It'll be more entertaining if they argue about their different interests and not have fun.
FRIDAY
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, is this ever boring. At first, I thought maybe KM got some cash from a cruise company for this storyline, but no one would pay for this.
Today's Boldface Haiku is titled "I Don't Think We've Met; Hi, My Name is Mary Worth, And You Must Be Toby, The Professor's Wife".
Before, enjoyed.
Me too! Something--everyone!
Different interests--fun!
I might be in the minority here, but I think this strip is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteMary Worth's passive-aggressive comment of the day:
"I like how people with DIFFERENT INTERESTS can travel together and still have FUN!"
... REALLY MEANS ...
"Toby, you're so boring, but I'll go on a cruise with you since there will be other people to talk to and hang out with. By the way, isn't that Nola Wolvenson hanging out over there, between the chicken salad appetizers and the salmon squares? Later, Toby!"
SATURDAY
ReplyDeleteToday's Boldface Haiku is titled "This Has Been A Paid Advertisement For The Cruise Industry".
Families with kids, couples, seniors,
Amenities, entertainment,
And the food!
Break cooking--need!
Everyone at Charterstone agrees that Mary should take a break from cooking. "Please, no more chicken salad appetizers, kelk crispies, or Splak shakes!"
ReplyDeleteLove the Boldface Haikus, but they will soon have to be renamed Boldface Epics if KM continues with this crazy bolding. 34% of today's words are bolded (yes, I did count and calculate this!). I always assumed (silly me!) that bolding, underlining or italicizing are used to emphasize things. We're emphasizing so much - how am I supposed to know what is and isn't important? I am so confused!!!
ReplyDeleteI swear, if Mary and Toby somehow run into the Beedies on this cruise, I'll spit bricks. I do not discount the possibility.
ReplyDeleteSunday
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling Jeff will say, "Please refresh my memory - who are you, madam?"
SUNDAY
ReplyDeleteToday's Boldface Haiku is titled "As Paul Giamatti Shares A Joke, The Ladies Recap Their Plans".
Excited! Jeff--
Knee problems. Join: Girls' Trip.
Good deal!
Jeff, Bon Voyage!
Wow, if KM is beibg paid by the cruise industry, they are certainly getting their money's worth. Clever product placement, too given the probable demographic of Mary Worth readers. I've had several mostly enjoyable cruise vacations, but nothing to boldface about. I look forward to Mary and Toby's experience. True, Toby may score a fantastic last minute deal, but I'm picturing them in a tiny inside cabin near the bow, where they can really feel the pitch and roll. Fun!
