Okay, are we going to have a lot of angst and no action for the rest of the week?
Or maybe Entertainer Esme will show up and say, "Oh, hello, Derek. Your wife wanted me to give you a message. She said that she had a bad headache and was going to lie down in your cabin. She asked that you not disturb her for a couple of hours. Come on, I can keep you company."
As much as I hate to defend dopey Derek, Katie never said she was heading to the restroom; just that she'd meet him at the walkway. Just sayin' But, getting back to more important matters, where is the souvenir shop that was next to the bathroom? And what is it with Roy that he can't remember, from day to day, what color a character's eyes are. Weren't Derek's blue?
Esmé or Esmée is a French given name, the participle of French esmer "to esteem" (whence also English aim).[1] Esmé came to be used in Scotland in the 16th century as the name of Esmé Stewart, 1st Duke of Lennox (1542–1583) and is now among the most popular baby names for girls in the UK.[2]
Esme is also used as a short form for the feminine name Esmeralda : Esmé Squalor, a villainess in Lemony Snicket's book series A Series of Unfortunate Events Esme Weatherwax, a witch in the Discworld series
Seems like it's about time for Esme to show up, complete with snarky comment...If she's so cruise-savvy, how does she not know that a cruise line will suffer mightily for losing a paying customer?...I can see the trial of Derek for possibly pushing his wife overboard. There has to be at least one passenger in those 4,000 who heard them squabbling over the attention he was paying Esme.
How did that very small woman get trapped in a pink box on the door? And why won't someone let her out of the pink box? She's right there in plain sight, and she keeps asking for help!
@Wanders, in your secret message you said that Katie is the first Worthy person to use a bathroom. I think I remember Tommy and Iris in the bathroom at the same time (Ewww!), and who could forget the really bad mess at Jerry's Sandwich Shop that Tommy never managed to clean up? (It's still there! Double-Ewww!) And I think Iris ran into Dawn at a disco in line at the ladies' room, didn't she? (That was anti-climactic.)
Mary’s Helpful Hint #47: Cruise ships like to project a healthy image, so don’t be surprised if you encounter anti-smoking prejudice! If some hapless HOSER locks herself in the rest room due to her own INEPTITUDE, you’ll soon find everyone accusing you of locking her in there on purpose, only because you happen to pass by the rest room holding a fresh smoke ... and her husband thinks you’re pretty smokin’!
Apparently KM is going to play out the suspense of Katie trapped in the potty (potted Katie?) for at least the rest of the week. That must be one solidly built structure since no one can hear her screaming. I wonder if Evil Entertainer Esme has used this same ploy before. After all, the ship must stop at Labadee regularly, and surely Derek is not Esme's first boy toy.
Can someone please explain Derek's hand in p. 1? Is his thumb on the wrong side? Is he smacking the right side of his head with his left hand? It's driving me crazy!
This has the making of a plot twist like one of those bad Disney movies where the same actor/actress plays the good and evil characters (even Knight Rider did it). I'm expecting Esme to cut her hair and try to pass herself off to Derek as a smoking Katie ("Esme" is almost like a word jumble for "same"). Derek will be mesmerized.
Its so poorly drawn, she may be able to pull it off.
@Miss Scarlet--Derek is so muscular, so ham-handed, so hunky, that what you are seeing is his right beefy pinky finger in (admittedly poor) perspective as he rakes it through his hair in abject frustration. And deep puzzlement. And Masculine Concern.
@Richard Koloda https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/For_Esm%C3%A9%E2%80%94with_Love_and_Squalor Probably not an influence on this storyline, though, as it seems in Salinger's story no one gets trapped in a bathroom.
Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.

ReplyDeleteBoard, where!
Check. You!
Help! Let me out! Open this door!
(I think S. McW. has a better idea than KM, for whom this scene likely ends the plot.)
This needs to be on a tshirt.
DeleteI like S. McW.'s idea too, especially if Evil Entertainer Esme offers Derek a smoke.
ReplyDeleteThis is what Katie gets for using the restroom for "traditionally built" ladies.
There's got to be a "Katie Bar the Door" joke here somewhere; I just don't know where.
ReplyDeleteToby's helpfulness is not helping. Derek, where did your wife say she was going? Think hardddddd...
