I'm also not going to think about pink elephants... dang, I just thought of a pink elephant! Every time I try not to think of Iris or pink elephants, I think of Iris and pink elephants!
Even by the standards of a usual glacial-paced Mary Worth week's story line, this episode featuring Wilbur is outstanding. I count seven steps taken by Wilbur throughout this week's events. Sheesh!
Are Iris and Zack still at the wedding, or is this yet another sophisticated grown-up date? I’m not sure any time has passed since Wilbur saw them in the parking lot. Because it’s always sunny in Santa Royale, y’know.
Great post today, Wanders! You made coffee come out of my nose. Maybe that could be a new Worthy Award category? "The panel that made coffee come out of our noses."
And the plot slogs from Stubble Legs to Stubble Face, which is actually an improvement.
Interesting juxtaposition of time here. Wilbur is taking his post-breakfast constitutional and at the same time Zak and Iris are dancing at the wedding reception, which means the reception has been going on for at least 14 hours. That's one hell of a reception. I guess it included a marathon dance competition.
The scene: the Humboldt County Growers and Trimmers Association Social Hall The parking lot is filled with dusty pick-up trucks, Maseratis, Mercedes, and guys who look like Willie Nelson.
When Zak and Iris arrive, they stand shyly for a bit, watching the other dancers. They notice two very blonde women, tightly embraced, and slow dancing. Iris and Zak are worldly folk, so they take no notice, but continue staring, nonetheless. However, when the dancers break apart and face them..."Tommy?" "Mommy!" "Momma?" "Zaky-Doodle!" So this is Tommy's friend from Goleta...
Now it's time for the Mother-Son dance to "Thank Heaven for Little Boys." Zaky and his Momma perform a smooth tango, covering the floor with elan. Tommy and his Mommy do the chicken dance.
Finally, Zak and Iris can dance together. The music is from "Pulp Fiction": 'It was a teenage wedding, and the old folks wished them well, When Zak's cousin Zeke married his cousin Michelle.' Zak's a good dancer! Not as good as John Travolta, but good. Iris, unfortunately, dances more like Strom Thurmond than Uma Thurman.
Then there are the group dances, the Hokey Pokey performed by three dozen Willie Nelsons, the Macarena, in which all the guests happily make fools of themselves, and then a Salsa tune blasts out. No one is dancing,,,but, wait, a tall handsome man in a tuxedo takes the floor with a lady in leopard skin capri pants. This couple is killing it- they've got all the steps and moves- Razz M' Tazz, Cuban, Los Angeles, Eddie Torres style, even SirTaki. What a show, folks!
Iris: "I'd know that hip action anywhere- WILBURRRRRR!" "IRISSSSSS!" The two old lovers embrace, and walk out together. As they walk through the parking lot, Wilbur surreptitiously and happily keys Zak's car.
The wedding reception then devolves into the Humboldt County nuptial tradition of fist fights, cat fights, and general brawling. A good time was had by all except for Zak.
Wilbur started this walk with such enthusiasm and optimism—and look, he’s already slowing down to a shuffle. I expect he will be down on his knees by the time he turns around to crawl home.
Carlye, I'm a native Californian and I will vouch for cattails along the shores of ponds... southeastern San Diego county for sure. Most of my childhood was spent on the back of a pony, off the beaten path.
Wilbur thinks, "All I need now to be happy is ... Fabiana! ... and my emeralds back!" Seriously, I like the happy Wilbur who feels complete without a so-called "better half." By "wonderful daughter" I think he means ME. He can't possibly mean DAWN!
as a former Santa Barbarian, I'd wager Wilbur is taking a stroll around the bird refuge. I'm one step closer to figuring out the location of Charterstone!
Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.

ReplyDeleteWilbur's also not going to wonder about Fabiana or Pedro, let alone his maxed-out credit card. Instead, he'll think about...MUFFINS!

ReplyDeleteThat... disco? I guess? should really look into raising those lamps.
ReplyDeleteIs Wilbur thinking about pink clouds or are those actually pink clouds?

Not doing.
Grateful...well.
What the heck is Wilbur wearing on his feet, anyway? It looks like white socks + white sandals, or a bunch of bandages.
ReplyDeleteWilbur will fill his mind with anything (including pink elephants) to distract from the 6,000,000 Columbian Peso credit card charge coming soon.

Zak gives Mommy and Tommy a lift back to Goleta.
I live in California, and I have yet to see cattails growing in a pond here.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how this could be but those two rocks look to me like they are sniffing at Wilbur.
ReplyDeleteIt seems Zak and Iris are still at the reception as they are wearing the same clothes as when they left on 12/26.
ReplyDeleteGreat continuity by Brigman - though I miss Uncle Joe throwing a six-finger hand at us once in a while.
Well, with seven steps, that's one a day, so verifiable progress is being made, despite how it feels.
ReplyDeleteSaturday, panel two: Watch out Wilbur! There's a cloud-flamingo about to peck your nose! Aaaauuugh!
ReplyDeleteWilbur started this walk with such enthusiasm and optimism—and look, he’s already slowing down to a shuffle. I expect he will be down on his knees by the time he turns around to crawl home.
ReplyDeleteWilbur, you neglected to include your delusions in that laundry list of things you have.
ReplyDelete@meg from yesterday, you hit another one out of the park. Wilbur keying Zak's car put me over the edge.
Carlye, I'm a native Californian and I will vouch for cattails along the shores of ponds... southeastern San Diego county for sure. Most of my childhood was spent on the back of a pony, off the beaten path.
ReplyDeleteThanks, KitKat. My favorite part was the keying, too, love some petty revenge!
