How is Mary planning to “cheer up” one dog or cat? Pat one on the head and then scram? In my book, that’s callous. Animal shelters want people who understand the responsibilities of adopting an animal and are serious about it, not some meddling busybody barging in. Shelters also need reliable, caring volunteers and contributions. I doubt Mary is going to sign on for that - she’d rather browbeat Saul.
Of course, Mary would cheer anyone up - when she leaves [big sigh of relief].
Saul, please pet one dog and pretend to become a happy person so Mary will leave you alone and we all will be out of the misery of this horrible story line.
Since it's seemingly inevitable that Saul will end up adopting a new pet, I'm sincerely hoping that the event that changes his mind will be when Mary makes the mistake of brandishing a stressed-out animal at him and gets bitten. He could then snatch the creature away from her while angrily telling her that it's her own fault for not backing off when growled at.
"So this is your plan, Mary? You go in and these dogs will be elated to see you because they think you're going to adopt one. Then after a few minutes you turn around and leave and break their hearts. Good God Almighty, you're just as cruel to animals as you are to me. Get out of my sight. I'll walk home."
Animals are capable of feeling real emotions. Mary’s idea of “cheering up” the animals is ridiculous and cruel. Yes, they’ll be so happy for a few minutes, thinking they now have a person to love. Then that person leaves and the animal gets depressed. They really can get depressed, because they are living beings, not inanimate objects. I really hate Mary right now.
Has KM ever owned a pet? Does she think that going to a shelter entails hanging out for a few minutes, petting the animal and leaving? Is that her idea of "cheering one up"? This is not Mountainview Hospital where you go about your Candy Striping duties or whatever you do there. These pets need homes, not "cheering up".
Also, how many times is Saul suppose to say he doesn't want a pet before Mary gets it through her thick skull that he doesn't want to replace Bella? Like I said, if I had a neighbor as horrible as Mary, I'd be doing 25 years to life because she wouldn't be on this earth. Doesn't she understand the concept that no means no? You don't replace an animal like you replace a couch. It has to be on your terms, not the terms of some old busybody who thinks she knows everything.
What an awful person Mary is and so is KM who has no idea how pet owners operate.
This is just plain cruel. Scottie McW nailed it on the head. Sincerely hoping Mary is allergic to cats and Saul decides to adopt a kitty instead of a dog.
Sandi, I agree. In fact, I thought that might be where this sad story line would go. Saul would adopt a cat (surprise!!). But now I'm hoping for a pot bellied pig so Mary will be really annoyed.
Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
“Dogged persistence” - ha ha ha, Wanders.

Forever home!
Forever! Told!
Not interested, Bella! Done!
Cheer up...today!

ReplyDeleteHe says "No" and yet he still moves forward as if pulled by an irresistible force ... That Mary is a Siren! Tie yourself to a lamppost, Saul!

It's fortunate Mr Wynter didn't lose a spouse or dimwitted Mary would be dragging him to singles bars.

ReplyDeleteDidn't Mary bring some of her raw salmon/past expiration date mayo treats for the dogs and cats?
ReplyDeleteI agree with all; Mary is being just awful and dense.
I wonder if the animal shelter will have a skunk trying to force its attentions on a black cat. Even if they do, Mary will never recognize herself.
