Mary Worth 3039

Suddenly, Toby is worried about appearing petty and selfish. Who says Mary Worth characters can't change. And to prove it, she's suddenly in mourning for Bella the dog.

Hey, everyone, thanks so much for making donations after the Worthy Awards yesterday. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! And I hope you enjoyed the ceremony.

  1. “Where he stands on the situation”. I think Chinbeard has made it clear. He can’t stop talking about his student/stalker. If my husband kept rambling about some girl nonstop he would get a piece of my mind and he would know I’m not “worried and weak” and “vulnerable”. It’s called respecting your spouse. Why is everybody in Worthverse a bunch of idiots? Why do they need to go to Mary to get bad advice? She could go to the local Barista at Starbucks and get the same lousy advice, but at least you’d get a decent drink and not the witches brew that Mary serves.

  2. I see that Toby approaches marriage as a battle to be won, not wanting to appear "weak" or "vulnerable" to her husband. There's a recipe for happiness. And the only marriage advice she seeks is from someone who was probably widowed in 1965. She needs contemporaries STAT!

  3. I love this recent take on Toby. Mourning your dog is stupid! Talking to your husband is weak! Feelings are for lower life forms!!

  4. First, thanks for the birthday wishes yesterday, my friends! John Dill’s pink cake is still MIA, and no Mary Muffins were delivered (thank goodness for THAT), but Mr. KitKat bought a delicious and beautifully decorated cake.

Second, it sure didn’t take much to precipitate this Cameron Marriage Crisis. If their relationship is that fragile, they need real help, not Mary. Toby can ask Wilbur for a referral to Dr. Sweatervest. He rescued Wilbur from the brink of suicide with just one visit.

  5. A little gin, Wanders?
They've been waving those tiny cups around for a week, and are holding them tight as ever.

  6. Jeez, here we go again, beating the same conversation to death day after day. We get it, Moy, so let's move on.

  7. Karen Moy has done the impossible. She has turned Professor Chinbeard into a sympathetic character. I find myself strangely annoyed by the recent Toby storylines--as somebody both too stupid to breathe and with the EQ if one of your dumber varieties of rock. Somebody as sociopathic as Toby would either be in prison or political office. Somehow I don't believe Moy has intended to make Toby so nasty. She may have intended it, but somehow I doubt it. Toby is simply serving as foil to Mary's great wisdom and empathy. Which tells us something in that only complete idiots turn to Mary for advice.

  8. Toby should go karaoke. That'll cure her blues.
    "Stand by your maaaaaaan..."

    Bravo!

  10. Read the new strip.

    Same as the last strip.

  11. For many days now Mary has been patiently advising Toby who has steadfastly rejected or contradicted every last suggestion. I like to think Mary is building up to an angry outburst that will result in a stunned Toby sitting on the floor sporting a stylish new muffin hat.

  12. Wish Nance would weigh in with a headline using today's strip. It isn't every day you see the words "ardent" or "groupie" in boldface. I am surprised to be impressed with Toby's pathos and vocabulary.

  13. @Chester the dog: Thanks! I think I am going to talk to my Barista at Starbucks and ask his advice on stuff. He's only a kid, but I can guarantee his advice is better than Mary's (and his drinks are way better than Mary's!).

The thought of Ian having a groupie makes me want to gag. Jannie has some very serious "daddy" issues if she has to run after a bloated, Amish bearded blowhard like Ian. The fact that Toby is threatened by this kid is even more vomit inducing.

I think Moy got this whole story line off of "I Love Lucy" when the school girl is madly in love with Ricky (played by Judy Jetson voice Janet Waldo). Her BF (played by future Rambo star Richard Crenna)comes over to confront Ricky and falls in love with Lucy. Lucy and Ricky concoct a scheme and make themselves look old to scare the kids off. Mary should suggest they do just that. (I'm sure Jannie has a BF that will fall in love with Cougar Toby-maybe a friend of Zak.) The best thing is Ian won't require that much makeup.

  14. Ian is just messin’ with Toby. After she called him old, etc., he decided to make her jealous. ‘Twill all end with a big ol’ sweaty hug.
    Thank u, next non-plot, please.

  15. I’ve always thought of Toby as Mary’s sidekick — her Igor, her Renfield, a personality-free Robin to Mary’s flattened-affect Batman, there only to provide exposition about angry old men, their nasty dogs or Aldo the Neighbor Nobody Wanted — but clearly, she is more Mary’s disciple, more along the lines of a Darth Vader than an Agnes Gooch.

The Dark Side has a price, Toby.

  16. Would like to see the same ending for Toby as that of Agnes Gooch!

  17. Today’s p. 2 is almost identical to yesterday’s p. 1. See, even June is bored out of her gourd.

Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
