Mary Worth 3166

How did they get all the way to the Moon Pie restaurant, park, order, get served and then continue their conversation essentially where they left off yesterday? That must have been one heck of an awkward pause!

  1. June loves us and wants us to be happy, no matter what Moy writes. (Don’t tell me that KM came up with “Moon Pie” for a pizza restaurant.)
Then we get to figure out what the heck those pizza toppings are, and how in the world is Dawn keeping hold of her slice. I fear that she’s already dropped it a few times and those aren’t all toppings. Ew.

  2. And I was so hoping for a dramatic incident with Dawn’s jaunty neckerchief and Hugo’s (rented?) convertible á la Isadora Duncan, who was strangled to death in Nice, France when the enormous silk scarf she was wearing became tangled in a rear hubcap.

“Affectations,” as Gertrude Stein poignantly said, “can be dangerous”.

  3. Today's Boldface Haiku is titled

    "Next Up: Anais Nin".

    Guy de Maupassant accepted!
    True. Base only see!
    Fascinating!

  4. Great comments so far!

I too was wondering what Dawn talked about on the way to the Moon Pie restaurant now that she's still yammering about Guy De Maupassant and his blind hatred the Eiffel Tower. This conversation is so strange for a first date. It would be like someone taking me on a date and asking me about Boss Tweed and how he stole money from NY.

Speaking of NY, who in the heck holds pizza like that. She's gripping onto the crust for dear life. In NY, we fold it and let the grease drip down our arm. Also, I don't know what toppings those are, but I for one have never seen anything like that in NY or anywhere else for that matter.

  5. Moon Pie, eh? I thought "loony tart" was the name of the restaurant, but that must have been something else.

  6. Wow, so much to, ahem, digest here.

Santa Royale appears to be a hotbed (whatever that is) of French restaurants. I wonder if the town has its own "Little Paris" section.

The exterior of all the S.R. French restaurants we've seen looks the same -- an inlaid stone facade. Quoi de neuf avec ça?

And who eats pizza at a French joint? Do the French even allow pizza in their cafes, brasseries, and bistros? And why isn't Hugo ripping Dawn for her unhealthy, pedestrian choice of food as he enjoys his veau cordon bleu?

Is Dawn pounding another Coke? Through a straw?

Dawn has a very low bar for things that are fascinating.

    As do I, evidently.

  7. And another thing . . . Apparently Guy didn't mind seeing the Eiffel Tower when he was eating breakfast and dinner. Only lunch. Odd.

  8. Hilarious and pithy comments by all today, starting with Wanders's secret message. Take a bow, everyone!

Maybe Dawn thinks this is the way French girls hold pizza. BTW, that slice is stiff because it was scraped off a pan left in the oven overnight. Tommy Beedie works in the Pie of the Moon kitchen, and he maintains the work ethic he established at Jerry's Sandwich Shop. (Remember the restrooms there?)

  9. Just throwing this out there but in New Orleans there is a French restaurant, Ciro's Cote Sud, which is known locally for its great pizza. Then again, New Orleans really isn't much of a pizza town.

That said, these two are either morons or Profess Cameron's Nineteenth Century European Literature survey class is nothing but him dishing century old gossip about the Parisian intelligentsia in a rough Scotch brogue. I suppose both things could be true.

  10. Scottie McW:

If Dawn is eating a Moon Pie, she is surely drinking an RC Cola, not a Coke.

  11. No matter what the language, this is still the worst date ever.

  12. If you are French living for a while in the US why would you spend any time in American French restaurants? Wouldn't you want to experience other cuisines like BBQ or something instead of automatically being disappointed with the fake French food?

Also, Wilbur always liked ham sandwiches - Dawn needs to take him to that first restaurant where she ate with Hugo.

  13. A tarte de lune is a french tart in the shape of the moon. I don't think that's a pizza. It must be some kind of French pastry.
