  2. Oh look, Dawn and Hugo have taken up ventriloquism. (Does anybody ever proof this strip before it goes to press? Evidently not.)

Is Dawn actually driving a Yugo? I'm surprised that Monsieur Lambare would allow himself to be seen in an ugly thing like that.

  3. @Scottie McW., I also wondered about ventriloquism, but I figure Dawn is going to solve her Hugo dilemma by putting words in his mouth, e.g., “Dawn ma cherie, if you marry me you’ll become a citizen of France and we will be happy forever! We will always live in the moment!! How cool will that be?!”

As for Dawn’s car, I guess this is June’s version of a Mini Cooper. I wonder how Dawn pays for gas. Wilbur’s credit card?

  4. Dawn is driving very fast. She really wants to get under, er, to the pier.

  5. Vizeet me is Pairee? Eh.... Eh...."

Meanwhile in Paris his wife heads to the patisserie to buy his favorite other treat.

  6. Kit-Kat-- You're right, that's a Mini Cooper.

Arg! Hugo drives the same type of car as me! Except my Mini is a Clubman, not a two-door hardtop.

I think Hugo's been going at the car with his paint roller, though, because (1) it doesn't have the traditional Mini white roof, and (2) according to the Mini USA website, that particular unattractive green is not one of their color options. It is, however, a color I see being painted on a lot of ugly new buildings around Seattle these days. I'm keeping my fingers crossed about the new townhouses going in next door to me.

  7. @Gina--Oh, thanks. Maybe it's just me, but this storyline makes me miss Estelle.

  8. Nance, you're not the only one. I was thinking the exact same thing this morning.

For some reason, I can't get into Comics Kingdom and see the strip (arrgh!), but from what you guys have said, I've missed absolutely nothing.

@RobC, I was thinking the same thing that Frenchy probably has a Mme. Lambert waiting for him at home (and I don't mean his mother).

Wilbur's ex must be paying a king's ransom in alimony and child support. Dawn's been going to college for 20 years, doesn't work (except for last year when she was working day and at night for Dr. McCreepy) plus Wilbur can take off whenever he pleases and gives his goofy Pennysaver (or what we have in Maine The Forecaster-our version of the Pennysaver) column to Mary, which has never failed to amaze me. (Maybe I can ask my boss if I can give my job to my next door neighbor while I go to Aruba and interview swimmers.) These two idiots (Dawn and Wilbur) live charmed lives indeed.

  9. @ Regina Wolfe-Parks, I don't know about charmed lives so much as they seem to have struck some sort of Faustian bargain where Mary (and her familiar muffins) is ever present in exchange for these bizarre romantic adventures.

Regardless, these two are surely a match in terms of conversational ineptitude. Then again, Moy's gotta write off those 20 Euro Cineaqua tickets one way or another.

  10. Pretty funny, everyone! I do wonder, however if Dawn's car might not be a Fiat. One of my neighbors has a squat little Fiat the exact puke-y color of the one that Dawn appears to be driving. Speaking of driving, doesn't it look like maybe Hugo is driving with Dawn on his lap? If so, at least he's letting her steer.

  11. At the risk of making matters worse for you, Jana C.H., I believe that's Dawn's Mini Cooper. I can't remember what the story line was, but we've seen Dawn driving that car before. Which is surprising considering that Karen and June don't often give much thought to silly little things like continuity!
