Could Mary be wrong on both counts? I mean she thinks Iris and Wilbur are still together. In Moy-logic, ipso facto, Wilbur and Iris must be destined for one another. My feelings about our characters fluctuate frequently. Today, I like Estelle more than Mary. And I like that brick of fruitcake more than Estelle.
I respect your rankings, Wanders — but I’d put Iris’ double faux pearl earrings (vs. Mary’s single pearls — outrageous!) first, followed by the Christophe silver desert fork and then Mary’s tiny cake plates, which she picked up in Mexico during a weekend of cockfighting. Obviously, this is all merely subjective on my part.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Willbore will start a cult. Zac will be his first follower. Estelle will shave her head and sell flowers by the town supermarket

That hideous fruitcake is so heavy, Estelle and Mary have to stand up while hacking at it. After two bites, Estelle’s jaws will be locked. At least we’ll be spared hearing more about her she missing Wilbur.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone ever held a plate the way Estelle is holding hers? She's holding it like you would hold a tea cup. As heavy and gross as the fruitcake looks, I would think you need two hands to keep it from falling on the floor.
ReplyDeleteEstelle still wants to be with Wilbur, even though he was a drunken mess and made a fool out of himself at the restaurant, which probably got him a lifetime ban.
She then says Wilboor's attention was on Iris. I think Wilboor's attention was only on one thing booze, sweet booze, not "Irish".
"Iris and Zak are going strong". "I don't see Wilbur getting back wth Iris." Wrong on both counts, Mary,. Your meddling sense is failing you. I guess she hasn't run into the new chunky Iris. You need a meddle checkup, Mary.
I think I dislike both characters today. Today I think I like the fruitcake more than these two. If I could, I'd hurl it at both of them.
Wilbur stood outside Estelle's window in the rain with a boombox and apparently she ignored him ever since then. Also, they live in the same complex and she has his phone number. So how is it that she misses him? She makes no sense. So let's see how surprised Estelle becomes when she finds out that Wilbur's attention has shifted from Iris and he is now dating Zak.
ReplyDeleteToday's Boldface Haiku is titled
ReplyDelete"Estelle Becomes A Country Song".
Miss...hung up girlfriend!
Know, going strong...
Don't back!
Four, her...not!
I disagree about where Wilbur's attention was focused during the Thai restaurant outing. It wasn't on Iris, and it wasn't on booze. It was on Zak and trying to put him down at every opportunity.

ReplyDelete"I miss Wilbur, even though he's a pathetic, drunken boor who forced me to watch boxing and who's using me as his fallback Plan B side chick."
"I told you he's endearing. Hand me that chisel, willya?"
-- Scottie McW.
I agree with Yahoonski. Zak thinks "Wilbur's pretty cool" ?!? Hey Zak, how about the other night at the Thai restaurant when Wilbur suggested that maybe your mother was, let's say a little "loose" and that her friend was your real father? Very cool indeed.

Mary is the Enabler in Chief at Charterstone. She ignores that she had to rescue Wilbur from the Thinkn' and Drinkin' cliff when he split with Iris; she goes out to watch him sing karaoke at a bar; and after hearing the story about his behavior at the Thai restaurant, she tells Estelle he isn't always like that. Yes, he is, you self-involved, culinary obsessive! If you really wanted to help him, you'd do an intervention with his "friends" and Dawn and direct him to some substance abuse resources. But, no. You're Mary Worth, and you need to keep your friends supplied with a steady stream of problems so you can feel good about yourself. Bet she's planning to douse that fruitcake in more brandy and take some over to Wilbur's...
ReplyDeleteWow, Mary is really, really awful. And pathetic. Meddling a dimwit like Estelle into thinking Wilbur is endearing and quirky when he is a drunken, narcissistic schlub who's alive, but shouldn't be. Hope you feel real good about yourself, Mare. You're a dreadful fruitcake. And by the way, when you take it upon yourself to direct the lives of other people, you are responsible for the results.
ReplyDelete@Regina Wolfe-Parks, Estelle is holding the dish weird, but in her defense, it is the tiniest little place ever, and it is completely covered by a hunk of fruitcake. Maybe she's just trying to figure out how to get a grip on it. Or, alternatively, she's trying to hold it in such a way that she can quickly chuck it in the trash when Mary's back is turned.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the tiny plate. I don't understand why Estelle misses Wilboor. I don't understand why Mary keeps pushing WIlboor on Estelle. I don't understand why Zak thinks Wilbur is cool, and I don't understand how Wilbur could have approached Zak in the bar without an apology first. Nothing here makes sense.
To whomever mentioned Libby's lack of whiskers, I hadn't noticed that, but I did notice her weirdly human face yesterday. Yikes!
