Mary Worth 3666
I'm completely drawn to the symbiology of Shauna's earring. I understand Masons revere circles as a symbol of the compass, which I used in the fifth grade to draw circles in geometry. And the square is symbolic of a square that you can use to make squares and measure square things. Historically, and in many cultures, the circle represents our spiritual selves and the square represents our physical selves. The common image of a circle inside a square can be symbolic of our spiritual selves suppressed by our physical bodies. But Shauna's earring is a square inside a circle, and seems to be indicating now that she's clean and sober, her spiritual self has overcome the addictions and weakness of her flesh. Not like that !@#$% Ashlee!
A philosophical start to Monday morning, Wanders! There’s a lot to ponder in that. I’m just thinking Shauna used her employee discount at Santa Roymart to buy those earrings.
ReplyDeleteBelated Father’s Day greetings to you, Wanders. I bet you had a happy day with your family. I regret that KM didn’t give us a Father’s Day heart-to-heart between Jeff and Drew wherein Jeff tried to awkwardly address Drew’s series of colorful romantic entanglements. That would have set a high bar for cringeworthiness, I’m sure.
Sometimes an earring is just... an earring.

That's not an earring, that's the pull tab to open the Shauna Of The BrainDead's headpiece when you need to make adjustments to the motor that makes her go.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad to think about how many of us were duped into thinking an interesting story was about to emerge.
ReplyDeleteToday's Boldface Haiku is titled

Mean girl!
People change!
I've...!

Yeah, it looks like we're settling into the mandatory two weeks of same-o same-o.
I am intrigued, though, by the Santa Roymart. (I intrigue easily.) Is that like a Wal-Mart? Or a Quickie-Mart? I hope we get a look.

I can only hope this is Shauna and Ashlee working together on the biggest scam ever
ReplyDeleteShauna was hired at Santa Roymart after being rejected by Acting Junior
ReplyDeleteAssistant Manager Tommy at at Freeda's
From those in the know: there have been a few references to the SantaRoymart since Dr Jeff’s son-in-law-to-be Scott Hewlett was grievously wounded during a shootout during a drug bust at the SantaRoymart warehouse.
ReplyDeleteCould the earring suggest a Zero, which in computer fonts are ovals, and sometimes blockish, as opposed to round or roundish letter O's?
ReplyDeleteI'm by the way the person who has previously commented as Baffled in Buffalo--there's a temporary glitch in my ability to employ my Google identity. Let me further comment that it's so kewl that all sorts of comments, not just Snark, are characteristic of this site. (Excuse my 'Mudge wrestling).

I think I’ve got the whole earring hierarchy thing figured out. The ultimate goal is to be allowed to wear the single pearl earring! But be very careful, ladies. If you do reach SPE, you can kiss your character good-bye. Mary doesn’t like anyone else wearing her signature earring!
ReplyDeleteSingle pearl earring: (saintly) Shelley, Adrian, Hannah, and now only MARY
Double pearl earring: (clueless but inherently good) Estelle
Two earrings: (young and sickeningly sweet) Brandy, Katie
Hoop earrings: (loose women) Fabiana, Esme, Ashlee, Shauna
No earrings: (dim-witted) Dawn, Iris, Toby, Jannie, Eve
No earrings (young): Olive, Madi
I’ve also figured out why I was never awarded a label of my own. Feb. 23, 2010 shows me wearing a single pearl earring. Guess I wasn’t saintly enough. %#$@*&

Sure, we call it an earring, but has anyone seen an ear to hang it from?
ReplyDelete"Sometimes an earring is just... an earring." -- A most excellent comment, Wander's treatise on earring symbolism notwithstanding.
ReplyDeleteI do notice that Shauna's covered/uncovered shoulders have been going back and forth one panel to the next for a week now. I can only wonder if that pattern is somehow complements the earrings.
