Mary Worth 4197

Bless you, June Brigman. This is AWESOME! I love Norman Rockwell.
I love that June changed the lady's cigarette into a cell phone.

  1. First it is great that you caught that... because I was just annoyed that the waiting room only had 3 chairs.

Also that vet needs to get a receptionist to handle appointments. My vet sure doesn't just take random walk ins at the end of the day.

  2. Those creepy folks need to go to animal hospital.

  3. Another catch by Wanders’s eagle eye — huzzah! Those years at grandma’s house were fruitful.

What a disappointment for Estelle. She’s been doing her hair with a brush and her phone all day, too.

I’m with Catt. What a sloppily run practice! What happened to Green Steven? Wasn’t he helping Ed? (Ed even needs assistance learning how to hold his phone. How awkward can a person be?)

  4. Excellent catch, Wanders! And nice work, June!

Sadly, Estelle is learning that dating a vet isn't all bright lights and glamor.

  5. I think that June knew the sheer absurdity of a modern-day veterinary clinic attending to five patients, after business hours, all apparently without appointments and seemingly without emergency status, would push a lot of us over the edge. The only way to soften this folly would be to play the Norman Rockwell card. Nice going, Auntie June. I think this may be a contender for Panel of the Year.

Evidently, word of Dr. Ed's botched treatment of the Pomeranian hasn't spread throughout the neighborhood. He's still got plenty of business.

  6. The fact that Dr Ed is willing to see a bunch of walk ins late in the day means that he is super dedicated. Admirable, but it doesn't bode well for Estelle. She might want to reconsider Wilbur again. He works only about an hour a day on Ask Wendy

  7. I guess Green Steven forgot to lock the door to the clinic in his rush to go home early.

  8. Hope the canine projectile vomiting epidemic has not struck Santa Royale.

  9. This panel made my day, and your comments have me guffawing. Normal Rockwell's original hearkens back to a simpler time, when people smoked in medical waiting rooms, dogs were all calm and well-behaved, and nobody had to make an appointment or worry about their work/life balance, although the vet's hours appear to end at 2pm. I think this was Mayberry. Plus, I have a feeling that the "unexpected work load" Dr. Ed is referring to has something to do with what's going to be left behind by all those dogs in the waiting room...

  10. I'm feeling contrarian today (what's new?), and though I'm certainly fond of Rockwell, I have no praise for June over this scene, which she has basically stolen without attribution. Maybe if it were one of his top 5 most popular/most reproduced paintings, she could assume people would recognize it as homage to the master, but it isn't, and thus this is just plagiarism. I'm not too fond of June anyway, partly because she's lazy, but mostly because she's a Moy enabler. Then again, aren't we all?

  11. @Yahoonski, June might defend herself on the grounds that her version is fair use of the original. I take no position on this; I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV. I do second the nomination as a POTY contender.

    1. This is a ploy to thrust MW into the spotlight. As the media rushes in to cover the high profile legal battle between Norman Rockwell's estate and King Features Syndicate, everyone will start reading the comics again and newspapers will be saved!

  12. Doctor Ed — Mister Ed is one of his patients — can’t wait to kill all these animals and tell Stella about it in gruesome detail over dinner.

  13. Wanders, great eye! Is Doctor Ed's clinic called Animal's Clinic? It's probably located right next to Dr. Drew's People's Clinic. Would love to see Shauna and/or Ashlee have a smack down with Doctor Ed over his care of the Pomeranian and end up at Dr. Drew's clinic for medical attention.

  14. THURSDAY

We're disappointed, Wanders, but your family and your work take precedence. We understand.

  15. How the heck is he holding that phone against his head?

  16. Scottie - Maybe Wanders is out taking his cat for a walk.

  17. Estelle doesn't attempt being suggestive/risque very effectively...

  18. After ending her call with Ed, Estelle calls Mary: “Well, it turns out I’m on my own tonight (don’t ask why, Mare). How about you and I go to Santa Roy Wine Bar and see how many bottles we can go through?”

Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
