Frank inviting Mary to talk to Lynn was kind of like exposing her neck to a vampire. Lynn can no longer resist Mary's persuasive powers and will now spill her guts until we puke. This could all have been avoided with a simple restraining order.
"Best friend"? I think we're about to learn how Lynn was heartbroken when Greg, a fellow skater who loved skating in sky blue spandex to a routine choreographed to "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going", disappointed her romantic dreams.
This scene takes place in the lounge/locker where skaters go after they faint, hence the abundance of Mary Lou Retton photos on the wall. Those vinyl chairs will cure any skaters ills!
