You're gonna need some shoulder straps if you're going to volunteer at the hospital, Dawn. So, that's probably out, for at least one panel. And, what if Dave asks you out or something... no, I don't think the hospital is gonna work.
Dawn was so shocked by Mary's suggestion, the straps on her top fell off. But not to worry... wardrobe malfunctions have a way of rectifying themselves in the Worthiverse.
Congrats to KitKat, who nailed Mary's "suggestion" yesterday. Unfortunately, Dawn's "expanded world view" immediately collapsed under the weight of the idea of actually DOING something for other people, and she reverted to type, egotistical, whiny, self-centered.
BTW, Dawn, those classes you're concerned with--the semester started a week and a half ago. But you never go anyway, do you?
Just as Dawn's face touch crumbles into a face fist (a sure sign of ennui and angst), so her expanded world view is revealed as being too expansive unto itself and collapses.
Dawn smirks in Panel Two, knowing that she will NOT consider it.
Until Panel Three...
Mary: The hospital is a great place to meet men, Dawn. After all, I met my current gentleman friend, Dr. Jeff, there.
Dawn: Hmmm...(resumes touching face; brow furrows thoughtfully) That's true. Doctors make plenty of money. I could easily ditch this Going To College facade and be a Doctor's Wife!
Mary: Many doctors' wives chair charity foundations and organize events for the needy.
Dawn: Good for them. Sounds like they have that stuff already covered then. (looks off dreamily while touching face in a reverie) I could have a dozen TVs and DVD players! Life could be Awesome!
Thank you for the congrats, fauxprof. However, the thought that I'm thinking like Karen Moy gives me pause.
So, after Dawn's life-altering experience, she's going to serve humanity by (ta da!) trailing an old busybody around a two-bit hospital to pass out dull books. Gee Dawn, how about changing your major to prepare for a career in some type of helping profession? That would be a positive change from self-centered pouting.
Wasn't Dawn already volunteering at the hospital? And isn't that how she got into that unfortunate situation with Dr. Cory Junior? Not the best advice there, Mary....
Hey, kids! I don't have time right now, but someone needs to plug the name "Dawn Weston" into the Honey Boo Boo Child nickname generator that's out there on the interwebs...report back to us.
I think after Mary dodged the bullet of Dr. Jeff's proposal and Dr. Jeff being tired of rejections, Dr. Jeff is going to begin wooing Dawn at the hospital. How will Mary react to that?
Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.

Dawn has been around Mary too long. This is evidenced by her face-touching today.

Old habits never die. Dawn is becoming self-absorbed again.
ReplyDeleteIn panel 2, Dawn is so mortified by this "giving back" thing, that she gouges her eye out with a tree.

ReplyDelete@Anon 9:10 - I believe Dawn met the younger Dr. Cory at a Charterstone Pool Party (Mary Worth 9, July 17, 2007) He had her at "Hel-LO!"
ReplyDeleteBack in July of '07, Dawn mentions giving up on love after dating a Woody. I wonder how Woody broke up with her.
By not volunteering, Dawn is doing the hospital a great service. I think it's long time that Moy puts Dawn and Wilbur back into hibernation.

ReplyDeleteVicki, I tried to resist but failed miserably. Honey Boo Boo has determined that Dawn Weston's nickname is "Doornuts Weepy". Surprisingly appropriate.
ReplyDeleteThe commentors over at the seattle pi are a riot!

ReplyDeleteWhat is Dawn's major anyway...Dave?
