It will be interesting to see how Olive cashes in on the life debt Mary owes her: "Gosh, Mary, remember that time you almost got a branch on your head? I sure would like another piece of pie in my mouth."
It's as if Mary is trying to pack in a lifetime's worth of Cheerfully Loving Encouragement by a Parent or Parental Figure in the Face of Years of Neglect in just a couple of days. This, of course, as Mary is wont to be, comes off as especially creepy. Maybe that branch hit her on the head after all when no one was looking!
Does "keep on keeping on" have some hidden meaning that I just don't know about? I thought it was something you said when you were in a really bad spot...like your house burned down, now there's a bear in front of you, you killed and ate the bear, but now there's a tornado, and you have to rebuild your house. You look at your partner, grin wryly and say, "We just gotta keep on keeping on!". I didn't realize it could be applied to a simple frolic in the park.
Don't be shy! I'd love to hear what you have to say about Mary Worth. Just keep it clean, that's all I ask. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY blog. I don't want to moderate comments, but I will if I have to.
And may the Force be with us all.
ReplyDeleteStrong is the force in the young one. But a disturbance the ancient one creates.
ReplyDeleteTree branch fairies are mean and nasty. May have joined the dark side.
ReplyDeleteWhy is Mary rubbing the spot on her head where the branch didn't hit her?
ReplyDeleteNo one will believe this, but for Monday's strip, I have no words.

ReplyDeleteI'm with meg at 1:01 am. To quote a line from last week's Apartment 3-G, "I don't understand any of this."
ReplyDeleteAvoiding obstacles is complicated when trees are right in the middle of the path. Olive is in danger of twisting an ankle with those flip-flops, too
ReplyDeleteKaren Moy is so enamored of "keep on keeping on" that she recycled it from yesterday.
I'm with Meg.
