Mary Worth 1928

At first I was confused by this picture. I thought, "Hey, Hanna! Why are you driving that car? And is it from England?" Then I thought, "Oh, I get it. Mary is driving the car and I'm having perspective issues." But then I realized that Mary's car is one of those newfangled self driving cars, and those are its Car Hands.

Today's Full Strip

  1. I think that just might be the strap of Hanna's massive purse, which she's clutching for dear life.

  2. If Hanna finds a car with Car Hands AND Car Eyes she won't need to move to Somerset after all.

  3. Hanna's makeup today is courtesy of those nice people who did the Planet of the Apes movies.

  4. "Friends help one another, ya know whaddimean?" Quid pro quo; spoken like a veteran of Philadelphia pay-to-play politics. New crossover: Judge Mary Worth.

  5. Hanna must be driving because the steering wheel matches her dress. Mary's dress matches the car's pink exterior. When she's strapped to the hood, she won't clash with the car paint.

Anonymous, you've identified a criminal element in Santa Royale. As Hanna says in the first panel, "Anything can happen." YaknowwhatImean?

  6. NARRATIVE FOUL! It was Mary who passively-aggressively brought up the waiting list yesterday, and now she's trying to lay it off onto Hanna.

  7. Sorry. That was grammatically misleading. I meant MOY is laying it off onto Hanna.

  8. Panel - KITT from Knight-Rider? No one is in the car. yet, a dialog is occurring.

  9. Panel One, that is. It pays to proof-read.

  10. Mary just promised to help drive Hanna around for the next three years? Time for Mary to get out of Dodge and take a long trip to an Arizona spa, or NYC, or somewhere - anywhere long enough so that Hanna will have to set up other arrangements (or get a new eyeglasses prescription).

  11. I think it's interesting that only after Hanna agreed with Mary's decree that what's best for her is to take up residence at Somerset isMary is willing to be a good friend and take her where she needs to go. Play by Mary's rules, you get the good Mary, cross her wishes and the snarky Mary is who you deal with.

  12. IAmNotAROBOT, you hit it . . . I think this strip has definitely shown Mary's feet of clay more than any previous strip.. a. She obviously wants Hanna with her frumpy gray hair, dumpy attitude and non-problem solving attitude to get the heck out of Charterstone. b. Talk Hanna into believing she has eyesight problems without a medical professional giving a diagnosis c. Only provide help to Hanna IF she takes Mary's sage advice (i.e. get on that waiting list for Somerset). Can't wait to see if Mary really comes through like a Good Friend, fetching stuff for Hanna for the NEXT THREE YEARS, although, in Worthiverse time, those three years will probably fly by.

  13. Wouldn't it be remarkable if Sean and Hanna hit it off and got married and she moved into his Somerset pad right away? I just can't even imagine how crazy that would be if Moy took this story in that unexpected direction.

  14. Perhaps Sean would move into Charterstone with Hanna. Then, when he is unable to drive, Mary will be stuck with both of them.

Mary, holding a drugstore bag with a pair of tongs: "Sean, here are your, uh, items." And of course there will still be a three year waiting list at Somerset.

Oh, and Hanna? Mary is not a 'busy woman.' She is a BUSY BODY.
