I'm guessing it is very unusual for a paper to drop a syndicated feature and then pick it up again. Unless there is a huge public outcry. I wonder if Karen Moy is writing from personal experience when all the papers that have dropped this strip started to pick it up again.
ReplyDelete"If I'm hearing you correctly." Who says that in this context?
The dialog in this strip is as unrealistic as the artwork. But of course, we've all known that for a long time.
If Moy and Brigman would put in half the effort and thought that Wanders and the commenters here do, the strip wouldn't be so lame.
Meanwhile in Beautiful Italy, Dawn sends Wilbur a text informing him that she's staying there and moving in with her new boyfriend, Fredo.

Oh brother. One visit with Dr. Therapist and Wilbur's life is turning around. I imagine there was a massive letter writing campaign (in the KM world, people write letters instead of emailing) to get Wilbur back in the free supermarket Pennysaver. Now Iris can once again read his amazing musings (or use it to line her parakeet's page.)
ReplyDeleteNow what other wonderful news will Wilbur have? His radio will miraculously work again? Fabiana will send his 30K emerald back? Iris will realize what she's missing and run back to him? Will he get a swelled head again?
Wilbur is one of the most unlikable characters in any comic strip I've ever read (maybe with the exception of the Katzenjammer Kids). If he was a real life person, I would tell him he deserves any bad luck he gets. Let's have a strip with the following: Iris, Wilbur, Dawn and Mary. Well maybe Mary, as she runs the meddle show.
Eh, just as I predicted yesterday - Wilbur’s crummy writing rebounds and all is well with the world. “Suicidal - not me!” I think it’s time for Wilbur to go to Hawaii and interview people who have evacuated from Kilauea. First, he needs to stand on the edge of the volcano to get the FULL explosive experience.
ReplyDeleteMy columns are back! This calls for a drink!!!
ReplyDeleteI was kind of hoping Wilbur would keep on drinking so that we could have an intervention.
ReplyDeleteThe world is saved! Ask Wendy is back! Oh brother is right, Regina.
ReplyDeleteDon't ask me but I don't think people bounce back from suicidal depression quite this quickly. Wilbur is a loathsome worm. He needs to deal with that.
ReplyDeleteThank God "Dear Wendy" is back. I'm sure Wilbur doesn't write is columns days in advance but right before they go to press each day so there is no stable of columns to fall back on. One can only imagine the shock of the readers in the OR staff lounge when instead of Ask Wendy for a day or two they have to read "Love is..."
ReplyDeleteFifty shades of purple today. Reminds me of Mary.
ReplyDelete@Maxwell Bacon: Ewwwww!!!! Yuck!
ReplyDeleteI'm getting a bit desperate to see other Worthiverse denizens. I am sick of Wilbur. Please, can we check in with Toby and Ian? Can John Dill help bake the wedding cake for Harry & Meghan? ANYthing other than this. Thanks, I'd appreciate it, Ms Moy.
ReplyDeleteI am eagerly awaiting the ugly breakup of Zak and Iris. Is Wilbur an incel?
ReplyDeleteI remember a newspaper article about why they were cancelling Blondie. It said that the pricing system raised the cost every year. If they gave it a rest, it could start over cheaper.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, I've tried and failed to find the story.
I'm with you, Sandi Ego. Wouldn't it be great if Moy brought back Dr. Adrien or Dr. Drew, or even Dr. Jeff? However, I'm guessing that at this point even the other characters in this strip have walked off the job.
ReplyDeleteI guess Wilbur’s life is back on track now that he’s had his one-time therapist appointment and his columns are safe. I hope KM can now retire him for a while. Oh, except that California is levying $500 fines for water wastage. Now there’s a coda I’d like to see.
ReplyDeleteCould we, pretty please, have some NEW characters in the new "plot"? Maybe Dawn could have developed a friendship with another student in beautiful Italy? Or new tenants could move in? Or Tommy could have gotten a job and brings home a friend from work? Or Mary joins a yoga class and takes part in a "sharing circle"? Wait, I think we already had that last one ...
