Tommy's gotten a lot more innocent looking since he left the clink, but he still struggles with basic communication in the outside world. "What's new with you," is something you ask your cell mate when you see him at a Narcotics Anonymous meeting, but it's not something you ask someone you just met, Tommy. But hang in there, you'll figure it out.
Brandy's response, reminds me of one of my favorite Mary Tyler More scenes, which I've shared here before I think:
ReplyDelete"Same, minus the cat. Well, sort of. I have a 12-foot python. I feed it stray cats."
Tommy and Brandy should get together with medical assistant Jared. They'd have lots to talk about.
-- Scottie McW.
It remains to be seen if Tommy likes cats. If he doesn’t, that’s a deal-breaker. Even if he does, Brandy is better off with just the cat.
ReplyDeleteClassic Ted Baxter is the perfect way to start a new week - thanks, Wanders.
ReplyDeleteScottie McW., you beat me to it. I was going to say that Brandy seems to be the female version of Medical Assistant Jared. I wonder if she collects Star Wars figures. Tommy hasn’t mentioned that he lives with Mommy Iris. Maybe he’ll loosely describe his prison incarceration as “I used to live with a group of guys, kind of like a frat house.”
Tommy ain't the brightest bulb, but at least he has enough sense not to mention he lives with his mother.
ReplyDeleteAgain with the hairy curtains. Is this retro diner the same place where Wilbur wowed 'em with his singing?
ReplyDeleteToday's Boldface Haiku is titled
ReplyDelete"New Math? Tommy's Order Of Operations".
New?
New? Freda's, cat, repeat.
Simple. Too.
Minus.
I'm waiting for Tommy to say "I live with my mom, but she's usually not at home. She's dating a guy my age who may or may not become my stepdad."
ReplyDeleteBrandy: "Check, please."
What is in the water in Santa Royale? These are some of the blandest twenty-somethings imaginable. Dawn at least has her wishy-washy non-flings with older men and Zak is off camping with Iris. Whatever happened to the Tommy with a wisp of ambition? Did they go all Clockwork Orange on him at Goleta State Prison?
ReplyDelete@Regina - "And I quit my jobs as soon as something doesn't go my way, and I was recently addicted to Vicodin, and I'm a convicted felon and did time in prison."
ReplyDelete@Yahoonski, good observation on the drapes. It looks like a bunch of dogs has been napping on them. How (un)appetizing!
ReplyDelete@Nance, excellent math-related title for today's boldface haiku. It's so apt that the haiku ends with "minus"; I'm hoping for "less than zero" tomorrow.
TimP
ReplyDeleteSorry, Goleta doesn't have a prison. Tommy would have had to go to Atascadero.
Tommy says, "Same ... MINUS the cat. ... PLUS I kiss my mommy good night before I go to bed."
ReplyDeleteThese two certainly are simple.
ReplyDeleteAt least Tommy didn't mention that he lives with his mommy instead of a cat.
Heh, although his mommy is a cougar, which is basically a big cat.
ReplyDeleteReally?! I come back from a MW-deprived vacation only to find that we're back on Beedie Street.. And in the first scintillating panels, we find out that Beedie and Co-worker Brandy have life boredom in common... Isn't there ANYONE else KM could write about besides the Beedies?...They have had entirely TOO much airtime in this strip, to the point where "Mary Worth" might be renamed "Beedie Ties" or maybe "Iris Beedie Times Were at an End".
ReplyDelete@KitKat--Oh, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI missed out on yesterday's Boldface-ful strip. Father's Day doings and whatnot.
Hey, living with his parents worked for George.

Anyone missing Wilbur yet?
